Spamming of buddy referral offers in chat

As a second time new player (I played some back in 2017 and recently returned with a new character), I just want to say that the constant spamming of the buddy referral offers in chat is the single worst thing about this game. They really irritate me. Imo they should be limited to one channel and if anyone should be advertising in game, it should be eve online. Spamming people who have already discovered the game just doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t even want to start trying to address the problem because it feels so big, so I completely ignore chat. Thx
Edit: I found my referral link for the 1m skill points here in the forums.

Right click → ignore player can help.

They make new alts 2-3 times a day. Ignore doesn’t help.

It’s been an exceptionally bad week since a whole wack of people made 12 new accts (one for each starter corp) with the free weeks Omega and then power spammed all day knowing it didn’t matter since they’d be long gone before the GMs got around to checking the reports on them.

It should start settling down to the regular spam in the next day or so.

That make no sense. Please explain your reasoning in coming up with this hypothesis.

I agree, that referral spam is probably the worst thing i have seen in 19 years of EVE. And it isnt just since 7 days free Omega. Just make a new char, sit in a NPC corp for a day and do the usual new guy stuff. If i was a new player to EVE, id be really turned off of EVE as this is literally the first impression you get. Referral spam in corp chat, referral spam in starter systems, referral spam in hubs, referral spam via mail and on top of that the usual recruiter mail spam.

CCP should really stop that and restrict referrals to out of game places.

I remember the days when we had isk farmers posting in newbie systems. Or traveling from system to and spamming go here to buy isk.

This wasn’t that extreme though. Right now you get text wall after text wall.

I’ve had exactly one one a new char and one corp invite. Unless they sent a personal mail they all get reported so it’s a continuous process of creating new chars to catch new spammers to then have them stopped :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow… i just logged into EVE and what do I see.

Memories… was happy to click on report isk spammer.

Eve spam is a conspiracy by the Vikings of Ryekjavik to take over the world…

I mean sure if you want to keep blocking people who make them, but thats a lot of extra effort for something CCP should probably resolve, just having a chat filter on the NPC corp channels and the local chats in starter systems that just filters out the referral spam, its not that big of an issue outside of that though i agree

It was the part where he said “They make new alts 2-3 times a day.” that made no sense. Because they don’t. They specifically request that you block them if you have already used the referral link.

A person that logged into the game once in a while would have known this.

I have a cut and paste of snow that I use whenever they spam where I am . . . scrolling their stuff off of the page. Then I continue with my own work in local chat.

Agreed. SP spam is the worse decision as far as spam is concerned. Imo, CCP made a mistake with coding the buddy program and decided to pretend it wasnt a mistake. Either way, free SP is a good thing even if the delivery was a total blunder. Its also true that spammers make new chars daily to avoid blocks and some even write macros to automate it. I know a guy with free game time until 2030 for spamming the link to existing players. This screenshot was from months ago so add on more… it makes zero sense to reward these guys for what they do in the way they do it. If i told you how much isk he has made on top of that…

Doing that pisses off more people than spamming does. Everyone who has them blocked only see you spamming snow. I see it all the time when doing my PD levels.

You’re on a lot of block lists, Mike.

Better to use some of your influence to get whoever manages the GMs to light a fire under their asses to get them motivated. A chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link.

I yesterday spun up a new toon in a Caldari starter corp (State War Academy) and saw a grand total of 1 spammy referral link message in 2 hours.

Anecdotal but I expected way worse.

100% spam ladders and block posting is instant blocked on every account i have. Flashbang! blocked…by 1300 people in Jita.

Indeed. Here’s my anecdote grabbed less than a minute ago:

And here fifteen minutes after logging in one of my market watchers:
