Wish people wouldn’t refer to groups or themselves as elite/lite it really does nothing for them.
I think it’s more the fact they choose soft targets that can’t fight back, so it’s not what they do as such it’s how and why they do it.
Extortion (which is my pet hate in this game) can leave a negative effect on those being extorted. Wouldn’t be surprised if that alone isn’t responsible for quite a few players leaving.
I have nothing against CODE in general, but do they really want to be remembered as extortionist?
Since this thread came to life allow me to give my perspective as a “Non-Miner”
I spent many years wrongly thinking CODE was nothing more than your run of the mil highsec war decers much like those marmite collective or vendetta mercenary guys who constantly camped the Jita undock. I don’t even know if they are still around. Anyways, I lived in null and never really had any reason to know who they are. It wasn’t until I found the minerbumping blog that I discovered how fascinating CODE actually was.
Say what you want about James 315, but that guy had to be one of the most well spoken, well written, intelligent, and overall most hilarious players I’ve ever seen in a video game. His mere presence in this game made the game more interesting. I was struck by two things from the blog right off the bat;
1: James 315 is having fun and enjoying himself in a game that becomes a second job or chore to so many others, and
2: I wanted to have this kind of fun as well.
Does CODE pick on the defenseless? I would have to argue no. You don’t need to have neutron blasters fitted to put up a strong defense. You can do that by monitoring local, keeping an eye on recent kills or activity, not afk-ing, and having overall good situational awareness. Pilots who do that don’t get caught.
Are CODE extortionist? You could argue yes, whatever. The sandbox elements of eve online give people the freedom to be space criminals as a viable play style. This game’s uniqueness comes from it’s unforgiving nature and themes of the strong feeding off of the weak. It’s been that way since the days of BoB and I strongly believe that removing that element will turn Eve into another forgettable MMO that will fade into obscurity and die a short death. Many players engage in scams, cons, and extortion, CODE made it unique and interesting by turning it into a cult of personality, and that’s why they get the spotlight and the hate.
Do I feel sympathy towards CODE’s “victims”? Not really. At the end of the day it’s a game. If your not prepared to take a loss or encounter hostile players then you should probably go play a single player space game. Mass Effect has it’s moments. Go visit the minerbumping blog and you’ll be hard pressed to find sympathy either. People think CODE is soooo toxic, yet it’s always the “victims” that spew profanity, IRL threats of violence and rape, racial slurs, and overall cringe-worthy sperg. One memorable moment being a miner that openly bragged about murdering children IRL while deployed overseas with the military.
tl;dr I approve of CODE and stand behind them. They make the game more interesting.
@Janncor_Lennox - Yeah, I like that one. I…acquired it from the EvE forums here, I don’t know who made it originally. Perhaps @Nana_Skalski or @Shipwreck_Jones ? They both make graphical stuff, but I dunno.
Whoever it was, it was a gem.
I also noticed reading it a second time the comment “non-consensual pvp is rape” Please for the love of god tell me that no one actually posted that reply here. I couldn’t deal if it were true.
That exact phrasing (and other incredibly ridiculous blatherings) has actually been posted on the various iterations of the EvE forums more than a few times… It’s funny in a sad way.
Start yourself off easy and look for .5 or .6 systems. The lower security rating will give you a slower CONCORD response time, allowing you more time to to do the lord’s work. by lord I mean James 315 Find a venture, point, shoot, and destroy. Join the “Why was I ganked?” chat channel to post your killmail. Mention it was your first one and you will probably receive congratulatory kudos from other agents. Years ago when I posted my first gank in the channel, an agent by the name of Professor Lawrence Lawton contracted me free ganking ships to express his congratulations.
Know that as CONCORD’s shots rip through your hull and flames fill your ship that Princess Aiko is smiling down on you. They say if you sacrifice yourself to remove an unlicensed miner that your clone will be rewarded in the afterlife with 72 Exotic Dancers.
You obviously don’t know anything about c0d3. They don’t check to see if people have a permit. The permit is a joke. They gank anything they can, which isn’t much.
Please calm down miner,
You are incorrect. Not only do I check bios for permits, but I also take the time to check a miner’s employment history. If I see evidence that a player is new (under 30 days) I will give him a one time pass and let him off with a warning, contrary to anti-ganker propaganda.
Please refrain from smearing New Eden’s upstanding law enforcement officers with this #minerlivesmatter ignorance.
What is Pandemic Horde connection with Code? I’m puzzled. [THE NEW HALAIMA CODE OF CONDUCT: - The New Order of Highsec continues to recognize The Mittani as the legitimate Chairman of the CSM. This determination remains the rule in all New Order territories.]
Are you a traitor mate or I just misinterpreted your post?
Just wait till the ‘carebears’ realize you can mine Points, Scrams, Webs and Neuts for low/null sec minerals… and the ganker toys will suffer their own round of ‘scarcity’
