I heard you can access PI goods with the command center instead of the launch pad, although I never tried it. Is there any point in doing so? Some people say the taxes are different, but that seems illogical to me.
0 point in doing so
it’s only 500m3 and it has a cooldown.
Only needed if there is no poco in orbit and there will ALWAYS be a poco in orbit. Or if you get locked out of a poco because the corp set you to -10 standings.
I can say this with confidence that you probably will never ever use the feature and I haven’t because well… We all have access to pretty much every poco in the game at least.
No hidden strat behind this. Nothing that enhances your PI yields or gains.
It’s not so strange:
- PI taxes are defined by the POCO owner.
- Command center launches bypass the POCO entirely, but have their own cost equal to if you had paid 15% tax. (At least, that’s the cost I got when I tried it.)
In case there is no POCO because it was destroyed or if the POCO owner asks too much tax you can use the command center to still launch your goods into orbit of the planet.
It’s more of a last resort, because:
- tax is 15%, usually POCOs are cheaper
- launches are tiny in volume
- expedited transfers to the command center have a cooldown, launches too have a cooldown
- combine smsll volumes with cooldowns and you can spend half an hour transferring and launching goods just so you can pick it up
- you launch a can into orbit of the planet that anyone can loot (you can find those locations in the PI window!), rather than to the POCO where only you can access it
- It’s one-way only, you cannot send goods to the planet, only from the planet into orbit
In other words, it’s likely more expensive, riskier and a lot more tedious than using a POCO to obtain your planetary goods.
The only time I used it was to see how it behaves.
It’s a nice backup in case the POCO is ever destroyed and you want to launch valuable small P3 or P4, but I think it’s way too much effort in general.
Do give it a try though to see for yourself how it works.
Ok thanks for letting me know. Not sure the one way nature of the cc matters for 5 of my planets and the cargo container isn’t a deal breaker since that’s not too different that someone scanning me down and stealing from the wrecks, but the small volume, high taxes, and the idea of spending half an hour just trying to pick it up defiantly make the launchpad the way to go. Good thing to know I’ve been doing the right thing. I’ve made mistakes with PI before like not knowing it was sometimes a good idea to decommission extractors to set up in a different place for the same product since I thought resource hotspots were static.
