So where did you find this guy willing to mine in low sec? In my Placcid days, one guy tried to undock his Orca 7 times and we never got to finish a 6-hour session without someone forcing it to dock. And without the Orca, the higher ups decided corp mining parties was more trouble than it was worth and just let line members mine if they wanted to do it on their own. Occasionally a barge went there, but usually it was the Ventures from very low SP line members who had nothing better to do (like me). Just about anyone who had a barge didn’t want to deal with potential PVP (yeah it’s low sec so it should be expected, but being forced to dock hurts the moon profits) and the venture miners never seemed to think getting blown up every 3 weeks was a problem.
We found him in lowsec.
It’s a bit of a different feel when you actually live there. Sure, large corp mining ops are dumb. Better to lay with a few barges 15 AU off off everything. Align when neuts hit local, warp out when they hit grid. Usually they just pass. It’s a balance between positioning, timing, being on comms with the ratters, who fly PVP fits.
You do that stuff a lot more confidently, sometimes for hours, when most of your friends camp gates instead of sitting in stations as a default mode of relaxation. That also means you need to be willing to let PVP eat into profits a bit because it’s simply enough fun to engage in.
You can make barges tanky enough for response teams to actually respond in time. Which-barge-is-bait is a fun game to play as pirate also.
