Cruisers recommended for L2 missions, but they dont pay anywhere near Cruiser 15 mil price

Do you have any social skills trained, like Negotiations?
if not, that might be part of your problem. Negotiations gets you more ISK for mission rewards..

You’re the one talking nonsense, everything you’ve said is your own biased personal opinion which can’t be verified with official factual stats..

New players should definitely disregard anything you have to say…

That’s incorrect…

For decades this has been the general go-to classification of ship hull / mission level..

Level 1 mission = Frigate / Destroyer
Level 2 mission = Cruiser
Level 3 mission = Battlecruiser
Level 4 mission = Battleship
Level 5 mission = Carrier / Cap ship

my guess is they don’t have any social skills trained which is hindering their progress as far as isk/LP/standings.

Returned after a year, jumped into my (thrice-nerfed) trio of Marauders and still banked ~400-500m ISK for about an hour’s work. So even vanilla L4s can be fairly lucrative if you know what you’re doing…

It’s mind-numbing as f***, but beats mining…

That is absolutely true.
But for a low SP character, and the OP said they weren’t training skills out of spite or something, it may be better to run 2s or even 3s in a frigate.

I’ve run 4s in that claw fit I posted above, even the big ones like world’s collide, it takes ages, but it is possible.

FML, that’s just an insane level of cruelty! :joy:

yeah, nah… insane.

Yeah, depending on ship fit, skills and piloting tactics, T2 hulls can easily jump up and complete higher level missions…

But that’s more of a special case scenario, not the general go-to classification for hull class / mission level..

Just like Level 4 ‘Burner’ missions, those are special case, originally designed to be completed in Tech II and Pirate Faction Frigate hulls, definitely not typical for level 4 missions..

This is the path i followed and followed it very carefully. I slightly edited to what ships i use/used while following it.

This is simply untrue. I realize everyones mileage may vary…but to state that is absolutely inaccurate.

When you put the time into the game, yes they are designed for cruisers. You never told us how long youve been playing because it doesnt sound like youve been here long enough to realize this.

they also purposefully said they aren’t training skills.. so ideally its their fault if they aren’t making enough.

Ive consumed a few shots since reading that point…but yea, i forgot about that.

Either way, we all know that nothing happens in this game overnight…as im sure the op will realize that as well.

Go Marauder!

The problem, then, is simply that your expectations are unreasonable.

Or maybe people are using the wrong ships for them. And using the wrong ship for security missions has been normalized in the entire playerbase, people bringing 15 mil ISK Cruisers to a mission designed for 600k ISK frigates or 1 mil ISK destroyers

And guess why they do that? Because the 15M Cruiser can do the mission in 1/3rd the time a Frigate can do it, tripling the income per hour and tripling the standing-grind speed to unlock L3 missions.

Of course you can bet on the chance that everyone else is just stupid and you figured out a huge secret just on your own. -_-

Where did you even get the notion that the ships and the payouts are even remotely related. I think this is where your misunderstanding is.

Theres no mission at all in this game that will pay you the equivalence of a ships monetary value…none of them do. The payout has nothing to do with the ship categorization you choose to use for any said mission of any level. Im not sure how many more times this can be stated.

The list that DeMichael posted has been the recommended base rule since this games inception. Its a very valuable tool when working up the mission chain. The isk payouts are low, thats very true…but its part of the slow progression this game has purposely implemented. As mentioned a few times now…its takes a pretty long while to achieve this progression. Its either a mechanic youre looking for in a game or it isnt. If it isnt then your time here wont be pleasant.

I can promise you though that if you carefully follow that list, you will start to see the fruits of your labor. Just dont lose ships for silly reasons and your isk train will increase. We have all been in this same boat so we know it works.

The level 4 mission series Recon can be done in a shuttle. Cargo Delivery of any level can be done in a corvette.

Well, i was trying to state generally about security missions and wasnt going to pick through the exceptions, but yea, youre correct on those. Im sure there a few more that also dont follow the general rule.

Just thought I’d post my experience with mission running in small ships as it seems to be a little different to some of the others above.

I regularly run level 1-3 missions in T1 frigates and 3-4 in T1 Destroyers, as a fun and lowstress activity (I enjoy taking my time, reading the mission info and npc communications). I started with the Tristan and Algos. I generally use overpropped afterburners and manual piloting to ‘sig tank’. For OP if your not aware overpropping is using a larger than normal afterburner to go faster, (ie my preferred mission Tristan fit does >2000m/s with a 10mn compared to ~1000m/s with a 1mn). The ability to turn is much worse but your signature radius is still small and unchanged -unlike with a microwarpdrive hence you usually won’t get hit. I prefer buffer fit (azeotropic small only for shield extenders as this doesn’t increase sig radius, or I use hull or armour tank) to reduce capacitor draw and give me a better chance to disengage and warp out if I make too many mistakes and end up in a dangerous situation.

I manually pilot as compared to orbit/keep at range/approach to keep my angular velocity high compared to ALL the rats on grid, this also involves some level of situational awareness- orbiting in one direction on one npc may result in periods of time where your transversal is low compared to some of the other rats on grid and you will suffer damage. Manually piloting also enables bunching or spreading apart of the rats by managing range to limit the incoming damage. If your uncertain about manual piloting I would recommend fitting a 10mn frigate with meta modules and undertake a tier 2 or 3 mission with the goal of just flying your frigate around (don’t try to complete it- just fly and practise keeping your angular velocity high, orbiting while ‘spiraling’ away and towards your foes and get a feel for how to maintain speed while changing directions and when you do and don’t receive damage. You can also just practise flying around stations.

After this it’s a matter of controlling drones (individually assigning targets, switching them, recall and orbit or stow when one takes damage) to take down targets in a prioritised manner (ie destroy any stasis towers first, then high tracking weapon systems or Missile Turrets then small ships/destroyers) and managing range and trajectory of your overpropped joyride.

The limiting factor you will likely find will be the damage required to ‘break’ certain ships that repair, usually battleships, or certain missions will prove exceptionally difficult with enemy types and spawns. Likely if your reaching these bottlenecks then it can be overcome with adding additional damage rigs, increasing your drone skills, increasing the quality/cost of your fit, changing drone types (look into damage types and resistance profiles if you haven’t already) or even changing your gameplan up - kill the small npcs first that could track you and then get in close to the larger targets and add your guns to the drones to bring the dps to a threshold where you break the tank. You can also try relocating elsewhere around new eden and running missions for different factions - different rats and ewar types can be easier or harder depending on factions involved.

To the OP: I hope you find this helpful, but feel free to disregard as suitable for your playstyle preferences (I think you mention somewhere above about not enjoying drones and preferring lasers?). If you have a certain vision of a way to play then I recommend experimenting with builds and be persistent in your attempts and you may just be able to make that desired playstyle work.
