CSM 17 Summit Review

Yeah, there’s no evidence I play, beyond the 20+ hours a week of me streaming.

I can’t for the life of me understand why.

Oh, so almost ten years ago? Didn’t you attack another poster for saying it was ten years old and you said “well after 2015?” I’m glad this at least made you look it up and realize it’s been almost a decade since the last UI changes, and those changes said they made changes to things that looked the same since 2000. Oh, and did you miss this line? “…[t]here are still various things that will not get touched this time around…”

So how about stop being pedantic.

I’ve been playing since 2006, so I remember when the UI changed last time. Were you playing back then? I don’t think so.

Not in this thread. All I said about Photon was that we met with the team, they’ve been doing a good job, and that we found out during the summit that Photon was being made permanent on SISI. We told the team that some people would be concerned with that. I noted they’ve done a ton of changes since they rolled the first iteration of Photon out, which is true, and that I was confident they’d keep iterating, because that has been their track record so far.

You contradicted me, and then proceeded to derail this thread, about the CSM summit, with more than a dozen argumentative posts whining about the UI. Take it some place else.

No, I did not. Especially not since they got changed later on, like the repated changes to the Characters sheet or the introduction of the unified industry window. The pedantic person here is you because you keep insisting repeatedly that the UI had not been changed since 2003. You even keep claiming that you know when it last changed since you play since 2006, but that claim has been disproven already.

I’ve never disputed that. What I pointed out, and have proven with a myriad of problem posts in the feedback topics, is that they introduce a range of new issues with every “fix” that they implement after each iteration.

Photon talks were part of the Summit, weren’t they? I don’t see how talking in-depth about Photon is a derailment. On top of that, no one cares about any other topic anyway. The only other points that were mentioned in the topic were cat ears and projection, which you could not talk about at all due to NDA and then Hoboleaks revealed what that entailed. So, be happy that at least 1 person shows elevated interest in your summit summary. Because no one else but me really does. Neither here nor on Reddit, where your summit post and opinions on the summit was downvoted a lot if I remember correctly.

I can, no worries. Spitefulness is one of my most liked traits in people, after all. It even turns into comical theater here on the forums when people create new chars to impersonate me. :joy:

But I guess you are right. We should stop this Photon talk. You won’t budge from your opinion because you think you are right, I won’t budge from mine because I think I am right based on the evidence I have collected so far. Since the 14th is drawing close, I will see how many improvements based on reported issues the then mandatory Photon UI will have received since the last update. I look forward to a hopefully short list of issues because, as you put it, the team has been working hard on iteration and improvements.

I never said that.

Yes, you did. You said “When has that team quickly jumped onto bugs except for 2 or 3 instances?”

I would have preferred nobody read it than deal with your nonsense. And no, the Reddit post Pando made on the summit was well received, is still one of the top posts of the week, and had over 350+ comments.

In the end, your opinions and mine are equally subjective. The difference, however, is that Photon is here to stay, so whether you like it or not is immaterial - it’s going to happen.

Wow.

Really?

Just saying that “awards” may not always be the best measure of performance. That is all.

I’m just dumbfounded at how dumb this statement is, and how dumb that analogy is. I don’t think anybody would argue that those Oscars weren’t deserved, regardless of how poor the personal character of the folks who received them was.

Just stop talking.

Gonna skip back up to my previous questions…

… thanks for answering about the cat-ears and the projection.

Two more things I was wondering – again with the caveat “if you’re allowed to answer” – are as follows:

  1. Did the anti-botting demo from CCP include detecting the FW bots? I am aware now of three distinct kinds of FW bots. I wish it were zero.
  2. Did any of the sessions pertain to iterating on balance passes on the FW sites? Spawn timers / rate of completion for BFs for example.

Anything that could be elaborated upon further is much appreciated.

I think you will find that the Academy bitterly regrets making those awards. They just do not have a mechanism for forfeiture as opposed to expulsion.

The bottling info they showed us didn’t go into the specific areas of space the botters were in, but I would expect that what they showed us did include some accounts that were bottling in FW.

We did not get into this level of detail, but we did meet with the team that’s working on the next part of the narrative arc, and that will likely include things like balance on the new stuff. Is there anything specific you are concerned about?

Thanks.

And no, nothing specifically from me about FW. From others around me I hear a fair bit, so was just wondering if it was at the “mature” stage where CCP no longer touches it again for 5+ years. :stuck_out_tongue:

I told a guy to buy a larger monitor when he was complaining about not having enough screen space, and you compared me to child rapists. Just stop talking.

I have honestly read them (Except Reddit - cause reddit) and other than 2-3 things which i pointed out to the team last week, it really comes down to what you like or are used to.

Maybe if someone explains it in a different way, but when I see 2 people complain and one argues for X and hates Y and the next one loves Y and hates X - then it comes down to a development choice - the one who didn’t get their way gets hella mad and spews vile stuff on forums.

Not everyone can have their way, i would like the Industry UI fixed - it hasn’t been looked at since 2014 - not going to happen anytime soon most likely - Cest La Vie

Not sure if it was you, but when I mentioned “Most players” I was referring to the percentage of people who voluntarily used Photon long before it was mandatory it was definitely what you would call a “Super Majority”

But how many of this so called super majority were fleeting new players trying out the game, with no knowledge that there was an alternative to Photon? We know there is huge churn with a poor long term commitment.

That is why I am not convinced by blase statements by CCP about 91% usage; what would be far more telling is how many active accounts of, say, at least a year or so in standing, were using Photon.

No, you were the one claiming multiple awards from unspecified third parties for your supposed CSM excellence as some sort of basis of authority. I was merely highlighting the nonsense of that statement as a basis for claiming excellence or authority. I will not stop talking just because it irritates you, sunshine. And pray tell, what academy or other prestigious body exactly hands out awards for excellence on the advisory panel of a niche little online game?

If you cannot recognise that your advice to @Dyver_Phycad to buy a bigger monitor was utterly fatuous and a complete failure to engage with the legitimate concerns expressed by so many for the past four months about Photon’s massive shortcomings, then you really need to give your head a wobble.

Declarations of War, the oldest extant EVE podcast, has done a “best of” each year for a while now, and I’ve won best CSM three times I believe (as well as best guest, among other things). So yes, I’ve won community awards for being a good CSM member.

I’ve also managed to win four times, which generally doesn’t happen if you suck.

Winning awards for doing something you specifically said I suck at? Yeah, that kind of directly contradicts your statement - your opinion isn’t shared by most players.

My advice to Dyver to buy a bigger monitor is spot on - if you think you need more screen space, then that’s the #1 thing to do. It’s certainly a much more obvious solution than demanding over and over that the game company redesign the UI to your specifications.

I’m looking forward to the 14th when you guys are forced to use photon, and eventually will realize it’s not as bad as you’re pretending it is.

Reelection is what equates to approbation from most players. The awards are just another acknowledgement.

So far you’ve managed to compare me to child rapists, suggest I resign from the CSM, and now you’re bringing my real life job into the debate - I should have expected that honestly, since it was inevitable that you’d escalate the personal attacks.

Grow up, random dude.

And stop spamming my thread with off-topic nonsense. I won’t ask again.

Hello,
could you please post a fullscreen screenshot of your UI/Window-Setup in the classic UI in space? I have switched to Photon weeks ago and I don’t really miss anything after a few days of adaptation. I am interested to take a look at what you mean exactly. Thank you.

Been too busy reading all the crud in here before i posted.

Thanks for the summary and all the hard work you put in brisc. And other CSM

I think “some” folks need to remember or learn that the CSM can talk til you are blue in the face, at the end of the day, CCP gon do what CCP gon do.

There are absolutely loads of screenshots, esp by @Dyver_Phycad , in the multiple threads about Photon shortcomings in the Features Preview section, annotated in detail as to the problems.
