CSM Vote Result confusion

Absolutely. Because the decision over whether peanut farming needs a subsidy isn’t a farming question, it’s a political question.

See that is eactly what I mean.

That is utterly unnecessary and simply exists to maintain a social class of management who simply exist to be paid.

Its ridiculous that in this day and age its a core part of supposedly the most advanced societies on earth.

We’re bringing Jimmy Carter into this now? Also, Jesus Christ on toast, is this thread still going on?

It’s not unnecessary. In fact, it’s absolutely necessary, because you need somebody who is accountable to a constituency to be making these decisions over what is a priority and what isn’t, how the money gets raised, how it gets spent, and on what.

Why on earth would you let the peanut farmer decide what the subsidy rate for peanut farming is going to be? Of course it’s going to be through the roof - he benefits directly from that. You want that decision to be impartial, so you put it into the hands of somebody who has nothing to gain from the decision.

That’s where corruption actually does happen - where the decision ends up being in the hands of someone who gains something from the decision. That’s what you want to avoid at all costs. That’s why elected officials are supposed to recuse themselves from issues that impact their investments or their own livelihoods.

And if that were what actually happened, we’d probably disagree on less.

Yeah see that right there? Thats a massive problem.

My mistake. Let me rephrase. People like you are directly responsible for pizza being declared a vegetable.

Feel better now?

Not really, because your facts are still wrong.

I agree. One of the reasons why I don’t have a stock portfolio.

Well, then, thats one thing that I can appreciate.

Only a lobbyist would have the audacity to say that it’s not the pizza slice. It’s the sauce that’s on it that counts as a vegetable.

You want that 10 calorie “vegetable”? Sure thing. But you have to have the other 2000 calories that it’s spread on. Snakes. All of you.

I think American politics seem to be very polarising and partisan to those of us used to the European way of doing things; in terms of proposed policy and platform Saunders seems to be the closest thing to European politicians and policy that the US has, Obama went down well here too.

Slightly off the current conversation, but with reference to what I’ve seen of Saunders proposed policy/platform, which I’ll admit ain’t much.

It seems that the some in US haven’t come to terms with the differences between socialism and a market economy that takes some pages from socialism and uses them to benefit everybody.

Even after I link the article that goes through why you’re wrong, you can’t even acknowledge that and have to turn it into another personal attack. It’s just plain sad.

The irony is that the U.S. is as close to a one party system as you can get without going full dictatorship. Both parties are bought by the exact same donors. The voters get a choice between a game show host and doddering old fool, but at the end of the day they are two peas in a pod. Completely innocuous and easily led.

Both sides of both houses will vote exactly as they’re told to after they do their little act for the cameras. I could list a novels worth of examples from the last few years alone but it would be way too specific and I’d like to keep my posting privileges.

Grassroots organizing is actually pretty simple to do without breaking the law. As long as you maintain one main focus and shutter out any thing that doesn’t coincide with that focus.
Take for example, where I’m from we have a group called Citizens Defense League. We are focused on our 2nd Amendment (right to bear arms). We don’t stray from that focus, and because of our tolerance to either side of the aisle, regardless of which aisle they vote, if they are for 2A, then that’s who we endorse etc.
CDL started as a small group, and over the years we’ve garnered over 3000+ members, and the only money that is collected is once a year dues, without taking donations from any particular politician or anything of such.

so it is possible to start a grassroots organization, you just gotta have the focus and drive to start or be apart of one.

@Brisc_Rubal I know you love the game, but I honestly question how you could bring yourself to go through this again? lol.

My wife says I’m stubborn.
