Why do you guys keep saying “demands” as if I’m… demanding it.
It’s a suggestion, nothing more.
Personally I like the idea of ships having a charge hold for munitions, probes, scripts, filaments and boosters that’s separate from the regular cargo hold…
However I think the charge hold shouldn’t reduce the size of the ship’s actual cargo hold nor should it be the same size as the actual cargo hold… Maybe have the charge hold be 1/3rd the size of the actual cargo hold..
Modules would only be resupplied from the charge hold and not from the cargo hold… Any extra munitions, probes, scripts, filaments and boosters being carried in the cargo hold would have to be manually transferred to the charge hold for usage…
Basically it’s the same aspect as Drones, they can be carried in the cargo hold but can’t be used until they’re placed in the Drone Bay…
I usually carry secure containers in my ships to increase their cargo hold capacity instead of fitting Expanded Cargohold Modules… Mainly so I can use that low slot for modules that increase or help ship defense / offense / support stats…
The main issue with having cans in cargo hold is it takes extra time and clicks to open, find and move specific items in those cans into the cargo hold for usage…
So yeah, I like the idea of having a charge hold separate from the regular cargo hold… It would definitely be a QoL improvement and make the game more ‘User Friendly’…
I would really really appreciate such a system for item hangars, ship hangars and corporate hangars.
Jumping in here because i was looking to suggest (mostly) exact this: cargo hold “folders”.
Literally like you do on your SSD/Hard Drive: slice the whole thing into segments without defining the size of the slices - latter is done by adding content to the slices (files on the drive, items in the cargo). Flexible segmentation of the cargo hold.
And no: containers don’t fix that. Example: i’d want my Probe’s cargo be separated into “charges”, “loot” and “filaments” to have everything tidy and easily accessible. So if i’d put in three containers (smallest one available taking up 100m³), i’d have wasted empty 95m³ for the few m³ those filaments occupy which were better left for the loot section. Same with charges. And where does stuff go when i click “loo” on a container? (Into the remaining 24m³ not occupied by cans). Also what if i want more than three sections? With 324m³ total cargo, you can fit three containers max. It’s a broken, inflexible makeshift solution and having “bigger on the inside” secure containers don’t fix this. I’d want “more segments”, not “more space”.
An no: Custom filters won’t solve this either. Example: While ratting, you pick up ammo of the same category you use (e.g. Hybrid Ammo) from loot, but one you won’t load (e.g. Iridium Charge L) because you only use Antimatter M. How many filters you want to set up to manage this? Flimsy solution that might work for some use cases at best.
Other example: you want to haul Ore from a mining op. Jim, Jack, Joe and Jason trade you their ore on station one by one. How do you separate it? Good luck finding containers on every station out there in the first place, not speaking about ones in the right size to not waste too much cargo hold space. Filters won’t solve this too or is there a “Jason Ore” filter. For the former example with the probe: what if you loot filaments, but ones you would not want to use? With filters, they’d mix up with the ones you took with you. It does not work.
What solves this: right click cargo hold, select “segment cargo hold”, name it “Jim”, drag in the ore, right click cargo hold, select “segment cargo hold”, name it “Jack”, drag in the ore… zero containers used. Done. So easy.
Ideally there were at least two default segments available: “charges”, where your modules automatically grab their charges from, and “loot” where everything automatically goes when you click “loot” on a container or wreck or if you salvage.
No more sorting when you come back home from exploration, mission running, ratting… just drag the stuff from the “loot” segment into your “loot” station container. Done.
Why isn’t this already a thing, CCP?
