Custom Cargo Sub-Holds

I’m probably far from the first to suggest this or something similar, but I’d really love it if you could create your own cargo hold subcompartments
They’d effectively not be any different than your standard cargo hold, but allow you to partition off sections for various purposes, without changing your max capacity

So like say you wanted to separate out your ammo for the fit, and not get it mixed up with your loot
Right click cargo hold > create sub-hold
It asks you to name it and input how much m3 you want to allot to that hold (to be reduced from your total cargo hold capacity)
Confirm
Boom, now you have another separate hold (similar to how mining, PI, etc holds appear below the main cargo hold) to put your ammo, probes, paste, whatever where you won’t confuse it for loot

Assuming your main hold has a max capacity of 20,000m3… and you chose to give the sub-hold 5,000m3… now your main hold would have 15,000m3 and your new sub-hold would have 5,000m3

If you deleted the sub-hold, it would just return all items to the main hold (and thus also restore the allocated space to the main hold as well)

Small is 1k, Medium is 5k, large is 10k.

You can name them whatever you want and keep them in your hold.

This does everything you want with existing tools and mechanics.

“Everything I want”
Except being far less elegant

The old map did basically everything the new one did, but wasn’t as elegant
Yet I’m sure you like and use the new map much much more

Sure, if you think Rube Goldberg machines are elegant.

Why use the simple, existing solution when you can demand CCP code you a more complicated version that does the exact same thing?

Your suggestion and freight containers do the exact same thing to the code, put a box in your hold.

“Demand”?
It’s a suggestion, mate

technically not in the right section of the forums.. but Andlaust is right, use freight containers.

That isn’t the same thing man
One is a right click option, whenever you want
The other requires you remember to buy and stock containers on any new ship, every time you get a new one
That is not elegant, intuitive, or in line with the suggestion

still not in the right section of the forums for this “suggestion” FIX IT.

It is a UI feature, how am I not in the right section?

It is literally the UI of the cargo hold…

You: This is a good idea.

Me: Here’s how to do already do it.

You: Waaah, my way is better.

Call it whatever you want.

Another issue with the containers workaround is that modules cannot reload from containers, so for the purpose of e.g. an exploration ship where you’d want your probes, some paste, and maybe a data/relic refit on hand, it won’t reload the probes or the paste from that container
My suggestion fixes that

Except for allowing to use the contents in modules via the module menus.

Correct, ever since I am reading and attending this forum this feature was requested dozen of times. Also in the right places. And it is still not implemented. So that means that:

  • either ccp devs don’t think it is a good feature
  • or they don’t give a crap about what we write on forums

And with that you can stop argumenting with nay-sayers who are there only to argument for argument sakes.

Also reminds me, can’t contract a hauler with a container/can in it. Almost just gave in and repackaged my haulers remotely to make moving faster the other day.. but I didn’t uniquely name each can in each ship.

So it would’ve been sloppy to figure out and I would’ve then just repackaged each can (oh my goodness.. lol)

Freight containers are the worst to suggest as they don’t have a planck bubble generator installed. Also i wonder why the OP wants to trade in planck bubble generator effects of standard and secure containers for individualizing the compartments further than containers allow? I’d rather prefer every extra carriage m³ that the game mechanics offer…

Besides planck bubble effects, these containers are listed in the inventory in the exact way that the OP demands:

That statement is not fully correct. Of course you can contract a hauler with containers/can in the cargohold of the ship. Just the containers/cans have to be empty, as is also given very clear by the error message:

“You cannot enter an item into a contract which has a populated container inside it. Please remove all items from your container’s container before continuing.”

nice clarification, unfortunately mine were full.

I didn’t want to confuse OP by telling him he can get more hold than his hold can hold.

Well, then I guess I’ll just be the one to carry on the torch of those before me. The squeaky armour rep gets the repair paste… or something like that.
