Creating skins on the SKINR is 50% off. Has this happened before?
It kinda hurts when you paid full price to create and list a bunch of skins that might now not be competitively priced for a long time to come, or where I’ll eventually have to accept a lower than initial creation price to ever get them sold.
I’m trying to take advantage of it now, but still, I have a couple thousand plex worth of custom skins that are looking pretty overpriced at the moment…
Though as a relatively new player, it’s a bit of a blindside. It’s not the normal kind of speculative disruption – it’s essentially a meta effect. Comparable to if you had manufactured a bunch of ships and one day the game announced, completely separate from the usual in-game dynamics of mining and production: ‘this week all material costs for shipbuilding are half price’.
A heads up would have been nice. Pretty annoying when you’ve just dumped a bunch of plex on full price SKIN creation.
I guess from now on all SKIN creation is saved for sales.
Yeah, the more I think about this it’s a good thing. I think I was upset because I thought this hadn’t happened before.
But if it has, it means my selling prices were already working after past sales like this. So while my short term sales may be hurt, I’ll likely make a lot more long run from the cheap production now.
I wasn’t aware they did discounts on SKINR (it didn’t exist before I went on my last hiatus), and I’ve been using it a lot. This has taught me different. I put some SP into sequencing on my alts and queued up a whole bunch of skins right away to take advantage of this, but I’m now considerably less likely to use the feature outside its discount periods. I have to wonder whether this sort of promotion doesn’t harm profit in the long run, anecdotally it seems most people who care about skins and ship appearance were already using SKINR.
I’m never using it again outside a discount period. Though I’ll also be mass producing when there is a sale.
The worst outcome will be if everyone figures this out and the market gets driven to the point where (say) L1 skins are regularly selling on paragon for 20 plex when they normally cost 25 to make. This is kinda what we see with plex actually. Normal people can’t trade with a positive expectation.
What a limited understanding of the problem statement.
In-game discounts aren’t generally a thing (explicitly talking outside NES), (because where are my 50% discounted minerals) and for someone that came back to the game a couple of months back there was no way to know that skin manufacturing has “sales”.
You think anybody creating SKINr does it for charity? Even if your mind can’t come up with a scenario how a player could turn profits off SKINr, then the implication of illegitimacy of such use is laughable. Why is the Paragon Hub there again?
Also, for your information, CCP/Fenris have advertised the feature as being potentially profitable for players since its introduction.
This is, quite obviously, EXACTLY the purpose of Skins.
Have a look at the sequencing skills if you want some idea of the vision for this feature. Some of it is actually hilariously over-optimistic about uptake. Take Industrial sequencing, for example. Has anyone come anywhere close to the potential 1000+ skins you could produce from this in one run. And for only a cost of… thousands of plex? LOL
If profit wasn’t the point, why would I ever need to do multiple runs, and why would there be a paragon hub?
If were are really being as accurate as possible though, the point of Skins is profit… for Fenris.
This in the core has been always the problem with EVE Online. Once they introduce a game mechanic they kinda need to be locked in with that game mechanic because people adapt to it and then feel jibbed when the company changes some thing. The simplest way I look at this dilemma is that it needs to serve the most paying customers in the best way. Don’t forget that the market is claimed to be run by the players but overseen very tightly by CCP/FC.
Is exactly what they intended. Strap in because this will happen, again and again.
