So whats a “high end” newbie starter ship and fit for pve but has some pvp capabilities incase theyre attacked? (Obviously it would be useless against at experienced player but something that would tear apart a new player if he says someone close to his play time and decided to try his luck)
By “high end” I mean something most starting players wouldnt have but at the same time not expensive enough to get a gankers attention if they see someone less than 30 days old using it (for example i know not to fly around in an Ishtar even if I had the skills to do it, that would just be asking for trouble)
First: There are so many different activities in EVE that mostly need more or less specialized fits to run them decently. So you’d need to clarify first what kind of activity you want to do with it. Missionrunning, which level? Abyssals? Anomalies? Exploration?
Second: As long as you stay in HS, you are 99% safe against other players direct aggression, especially if flying a ship that doesn’t draw a lot attention. The greatest risk is “being tricked” by people with more experience. And against that no fit will help, just knowledge and not falling for their baits. In most cases they will either try to make you suspect somehow so they can shoot you or they go suspect and hope you shoot them, not realizing that they can shoot you back then without CONCORD saving you. You can avoid both of that by keeping your safety-settings green at all times unless you are abolutely sure you want to fight (and accept that this can result in losing your ship).
Third: The best way to learn is to join an active player-driven corporation that does PvP fleets regulary. Or join a PvE-focused corporation that will provide you infrastructure and guidance to make ISK very efficiently and then use public fleets which often are newbie-friendly to learn PvP on your own terms. Once you got the basics of maneuvering and using the weapon system of your choice, you can also join the FactionWar for example and train PvP in very cheap frigate- or destroyer-size ships.
In general a T2 fitted NavyCruiser usually is a very good middleground for a beginner. It doesn’t require much time to skill, offers good base stats and boni, is affordable for someone with rather low income, can run up to L3 missions or T2 Abyssals pretty conveniently for a solid beginners income and can take part in most PvP activities when guided by some more experiened fleetmates. For a true EVE beginner I always recommend passive shield tank (because it regenerates without requiring capacitor) and a weapon system that also does not require cap, so missiles or autocannons. Both require a bit different maneuvering, but are easy to learn and manage. Look at the OspreyNavy Issue, Caracal Navy Issue if you want to go Missiles for example. Stabber Fleet Issue for a ship with projectile guns.
If you tell us what your preferred “vision” of your future in EVE is, I can also recommend some groups to contact.
Well as for my goals. Plan to be strictly pve but with pvp capabilities. Basically the guy that never starts the fights but can definitely finish it (so youll never have to worry about me getting “tricked” ill always be green until someone fires on me first).
As for my current goal ive been doing basic missions in a corvette and while I kill npcs ships just fine the dmg (like 50 per hit) is pretty underwhelming when you consider I have rather decent skill points for someone with my play time. So Im trying to see what fits i can get to make those numbers a bit more “fitting” for the skills I have but also wont attract too much attention from possible hostile players.
Also Im very interested in the angel cartel missions which I hear sends you into low sec and other dangerous places so I want something thats gonna prepare me for that

NB, this won’t be much cop in a PvP situation, you could swap a web for a scram, and then it might be, but if someone comes and starts something with you they will almost certainly know what you are in and will have chosen a ship/fit which can best you. But this is only 70M ISK or so.
and what would that mean/be exactly? Also “only” 70 mil. Which btw I hear lost of ppl can make 80mil in hour… do you need experience to make that kinda isk or can fresh newbies do that too? Because if lets say an ishtar is like 125mil and 80mil x 2 = 160mil… so you can make that in under 2 hours… I dont see that being a huge loss if you get blown up.
A ship suitable for mission running is not a good ship for combat against another capsuleer. Missions are about long duration soaking up incoming fire while doing steady damage. PvP combat is very aggressive high damage (it’s scarily brutal compared to a mission). Also, if you are attacked during a mission then you are already weakened and in a poor starting position.
Of course, Mining, hauling and exploration fitted ships are not combat ships - if you get attacked you’re toast. Situational awareness is your best defense: don’t get into the fight to start with.
Ganking is a big scary “twice in over a decade” thing. I survived one of those. Stay to hi-sec, Keep an eye out for trouble/hot spots, watch out for known ganking groups and set them to red. It’s not that rough out. I think gankers like their own sense of importance - the bully picks on the weak kid who will provide “fun” at low risk.
If you go to lo-sec or null, then remember it’s risk v reward - take your lumps with your rewards.
Learn to fly ships - start with cheap, don’t aspire to blowing your life savings on something flashy. Fly what you can afford. I remember buying my first cruiser (Arbitrator) and my first T2 (Impel - I needed the capacity).
There is no right or wrong. There is no “best”. There is only enjoyment of living in New Eden.
They will know your ship type, and will have either scanned your ship for the fit, or looked at the guns and made some educated guesses and will arrive with (a) ship(s) which will counter yours precisely.
I find the venture the most flexible, reliable, mining and fighting ship, ready to fly by new alphas. The fit of weapons, modules, and drones will vary only due to your skill level. I recommend you skill up to max out the DPS on whatever guns you choose. Amarr lasers are better from the ammo standpoint, but normally can run with the hybrids and the ammo doesn’t take up much space. The last thing a ganker expects to see in a mining belt is a venture armed to the teeth. I find it very amusing to get in some good shots just before warping out. They normally can’t warp scam you, using the -2 warp core stabilizer on the low slot. If there were more like me, they might think twice before shooting ventures in a belt.
