Ok. Then use a landline. Let me know how it goes.
Voice over a line is 150 year old technology. It pre-dates the car, the airplane, the radio, the computer, and computer games. People were using very basic voice apps like Roger Wilco on computer games over 30 years ago. Thereās absolutely nothing complicated about it that requires a team of 5000 developers with a Ā£50,000,000 budget. Joeās Computer Shop could knock up something for EVE in half an hour.
Youāre kidding me. Second Life is probably the most graphically intensive MMO out there. My PC runs way hotter in SL than in EVE. All EVE has to display is ships or the odd station or gate against a mostly space background. SL has to display every intricate detail of the inside of some club where there may be 200 peopleā¦.each with bling clothes, complex mesh bodies and skins, and multi-polygon hair, disco lighting, ray tracing, each person doing a different dance, and so onā¦.and achieve a superb level of realismā¦.AND it manages to cope with 3 different levels of voice chat at the same time !
Learn the difference between client and server side actions.
Sigh. My entire career was client-server applications. Your spaceship in EVE is just a sphere anyway. It is no different to SL, where all the server cares about is your location. But in SL, the āsceneā can be vastly more complex than in EVE, with 'regionsā being larger and containing far more stuff than any EVE gridā¦.all of which has to be downloaded as you move. That is why in SL you can restrict the sphere of stuff you see, from the full system down to a close range.
bumped into Communications Center > Out Of Pod Experience
Itās called Security.
Analog Voice is 150 year old technology, true, but guess what, weāre no longer in the realm of analog voice. Everything is digital now in the civilized world, and Voice Over Internet Protocol, which is what even landlines use once your call hits the switch, is still relatively new tech where security is a very real issue. You canāt just throw together any crap VOIP system and leave open security holes for malicious actors to use to attack your customers. Thatās where the cost and time come into the picture, not the core technology.
Isnāt TS still around, corps can use it instead of discord, plus goons also uses mumble and others
This is true, what discord brought that was different are text channels for people to chat out of game along side the voice ones. Those switching away will likely need to find 2 alternatives instead of one, which means more work for those joining alliances and corps, which is a higher barrier of entry for newer players.
We also depend on discord for our entire business with the USIA. i donāt think weāre changing that..
Then you will probably see a serious drop in customers. Absolutely no one here will give Discord scans of RL documents or biometric pictures of their faces. Totally ridiculous.
Accounts that are not verified will be defaulted to a restricted āteen-appropriate experience,ā limiting access to adult-content spaces.
wonāt affect us at all as we donāt allow any of that
Until someone uses a perfectly standard EVE phrase like āwhore on a killmailā and your discord gets automatically flagged as adult content and everyone is kicked out.
What your server says absolutely doesnāt matter. A lot of EVE players (or: Corp/Alliance Servers) are explicitly limited to adults. Because else the owner could get in serious trouble just for having his corpmates talk about adult topics. Which means: those players will switch to another platform. And they wonāt bother to use a discord account just to use your service.
The moment Discord demands RL documents or biometric data, this app will be instantly uninstalled here.
someone in our group has found thisā¦we are experimetning with it already.
I would be interested in hearing what you think of it.
