Desolate Asteroid Belts Now Available for Testing

Can someone elaborate as to why folks are upset at the proposed solution?

Folks want the rocks re-added to nullsec asteroid belts, because of a perception that the ore oversupply in null was caused by infinitely respawning anoms instead of belt mining in the first place, and the fact that belts have a vital other function anyway (namely spawning rats, especially officers).

Flew a bit around on SiSi to collect thoughts.

  1. The site looks good but as far I could see there is only one variant so far. I would like to see some variations like Planetring Belt etc.
  2. as stated a random number of Desolate Asteroid Belts for each system.
  3. Make it a own Beacon Category “Desolate Asteroid Field” so that the “Beacon” category doesn’t get continued to be overloaded.
  4. Add the in point 3. “Desolate Asteroid Field” to the right click in space → Asteroid Belts List

Even more beacons to clutter the overview instead of the old and much better belts back in the game. Not a fan.

Just put the ore back , its not that hard.

Okay CCP listen up…
WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER PERMA BEACON IN NULLSEC. Fixing gate rats and fixing belts is SIMPLE, just put the damn ore back in belts as they were in 2019.

IF… and this is a big IF, you are trying to move away from the POS code stuff and move to the dynamic path yall have had, fine, that’s FINE. but if that’s the path you are choosing, then PLEASE get rid of anoms and belts in general at that point. Null-sec is completely cluttered with more and more stuff, meaning space is USELESS, holding sov means nothing anymore and this is a HUGE part of why

Can you just stop doing weird ■■■■ and putting old asteroid belts back? This solution still is worse than what we had in 2018-2019. Disappointed but not surprised tho

There’s still no belts in Provi or Catch (and others, while other regions get infinitely spawning asteroid belts of the rarest variants. Yeah they added the anoms, but the quality and quantity sucks, and we have to bust our asses and grind and grind ADMs to even hope to get decent availability. Most of our systems only have decent ADMs after a blue moon pop or if they have an ice belt. Just put the belts back.

I just had a rat spawn appear in one of these after sitting in it for a while, so rat spawning does work it seems. I wish they got rats more often or in more quantity, more like a regular anomaly (?)

Sat at the beacon waiting for something to turn up for a while now, still nothing.

If a system has zero belts and three gates, then currently there are three gates worth of rats to farm. After this change is implemented, will there be three gates worth of rats spawning at the Desolate Asteroid site? One gate worth, spawning three times as often? Or will the rat numbers effectively drop to one gate’s worth?

How is this better than having 5 to 20 belts in a system to farm for rare spawns? I’m not looking for some random to give a snarky response, but for CCP to actually provide some clarity here.

Can someone on the team justify it being on everyone’s overview at all times?

If this is not an event or a very notable object in the system, this should not be on the overview system-wide.

This should be in the in-space right-click menu under android belts or in the probe scanner.

Also, a huge number of players will not see this site. It will be hidden on all players using tired party over-view packs. You are setting up the content to fail with zero engagement, players will not even see it is there. Unless the over-view pack makes update in a timely manner and do not choose to hide them.

How about fixing ore in null in general, and buff rorqual yield again too while youre at it.

CCP you wouldn’t be trying to save face here would you? “We’re not rolling back our terrible design decision by reintroducing belts, we’re actually introducing new beacons”.

How about you just come out and admit the last 3 years were a colossal mistake and you start making strides towards reintroducing the content you removed with Scarcity, Indy Changes and BRM / ESS.

Own your mess already. Time to wake up and smell the coffee before you kill your IP.

Here’s a thought. Instead of adding increasingly contrived bandaids to try to fix the fundamental problem (which is, to put it bluntly, that goonswarm can out-mine all the rest of New Eden and thus build an overwhelming supercap fleet, and more broadly that nobody not already living in nullsec can build the fleets they’d need to take some piece of nullsec for themselves), how about you apply the tools you already have and use them to create dynamic controls on asteroid belts.

Namely:
You already have a bounty modifier to keep systems from getting overly farmed on combat anomalies. Why not do the same thing for asteroid belts? The higher the indy ADM gets, the smaller the asteroid fields get when they respawn. But since the asteroid belts are always there (even if it’s just one tiny Arkanor rock or whatever), people who want to chain belt rats and farm officer spawns can do that.

Every fix you have tried to implement has made the game worse, with very few exceptions. I really wish you’d have a post-mortem of blackout, scarcity, and the “chaos” era, and give the players an honest assessment of what it was all intended to achieve, and whether it actually did.

These belts are only for screenshots, new player tours, and NPCs. Why would you expect ore?

this please

Glad to see that the regions without asteroid belts at least have empty asteroid belts now for NPCs to spawn on!
