Or you know it could be reliant on them achieving deadlines with projects like Nova and actually launching them on time and without major dramas.
In other news stocks in tinfoil soar.

(Arthur Aihaken) #2297

If you’re hoping to ride the tinfoil wave you’re late to the party. Some of us have been stocking up for years…

(Salvos Rhoska) #2298

Mostly likely those are involved as well, albeit not as deadlines/drama specifically, but in if they meet projected revenue.

(Matthias Ancaladron) #2299

you should have pearl abyss come in and finish walking in station that ccp utterly failed to finish and update the now outdated character creator.

(Arthur Aihaken) #2300

They’d just have CCP do it, which means it would languish in beta for several years, remain in an unfinished state and then eventually dropped because no one was using it.

(Nana Skalski) #2301

They will treat CCP as Koreans now? That doesnt look good.

(Yiole Gionglao) #2302

To the contrary, CCP is Icelandic and China is good friends with Iceland because of a deal for geothermal technology worth a billion $. This means that CCP can access China to sell whatever Pearls Abyss wants them to sell there. Like Nova, Aurora and Galaxy… or maybe even BDO if CCP acts as publisher.

Ah, but you might wonder: how large is the smartphone game market in China? There’s 800 million game-capable phones in China… since they manufacture them there, after all, and basic models are dirt cheap.

CCP has been planning on selling the company for a long time. Most of us figured it out when they inflated the number of accounts to make a better sale. Its just obvious from a business standpoint. CCP deleted my first post about this because they dont want the new owner to realize they got sold lots of multiple accounts per user.

It’s all about China and access to its lucrative market.

PA doesn’t primarily care so much about EvE. The asset that attracted PA was CCP’s business funnel into China CCP had long established permissions for. Smart move by PA, really, they could make billions from it. That’s why PA was willing to pay such a high price for CCP. They were buying business access. Clever use of geopolitics in business. o7 PA Reading interview with PA ceo one can read between the lines and see he makes oblique reference to China market.

CCP’s investors saw their chance to sell well and took it. Wasn’t about the financial validity or not of CCP. Who can blame them? Kudos to them.

win/win situation…for PA and CCP investors/hilmar, anyway. China will probably get what they want out of the arrangement, too. Existing EvE players?..maybe not so much after PA solidifies it’s China stance and gets around to seriously thinking about how to make more money from EvE than even CCP could while trying to meet PA’s financial goals.

Oh, things won’t change because people were told they won’t change? lol Maybe - maybe - not at first. Once PA has situation where they want things with EvE certainly will. The history of business acquisitions supports that…sorry fellow eggers.

The potential numbers involved mean we existing EvE players are not critically important. They could lose all of us and still go forward no problem. There will be no jita riots, those days are past. Even if there were it wouldn’t matter.

A “brave new world” is coming to EvE (2 years outside maximum, probably much sooner). Our choices will be adapt to it or leave with fond memories.

We live in interesting game times.

Yup China is Big game now, China is ONLY game now anything other are peanuts as someone said “China have 800 000 000 game capable smartphones now” and whole EVE Online worth less than 0.000001 % China mobile game market. It is like old shipyard on great real estate on the coast and new entrepreneur come , buy company remove shipyard and build shiny hotel on that real estate.
Eve online is that old shipyard on great real estate …

P.S.
First phase of shipyard demolition just started by new “speech rules”

(Ima Wreckyou) #2306

Still dreaming about EVE becoming Hello Kitty online? Looks like nothing like that is happening

(Predvodnica LSG) #2307

Is this example of Online Stalking ???

(BIade Runner) #2308

(Nana Skalski) #2309

But I fear when Chinese will see PA as those who owns CCP, the politics will come into play.

That seems as investor risk. PA seem to know that. If CCP will not be able to earn cash in china by pushing NOVA and some mobile games there, PA will not pay the bonus $200M.

(Salvos Rhoska) #2310

We dont know the specifics of CCPs access/connections to the Chinese gov, regulatory bodies etc.

It could be they are temporary, or simply hinged on a specific successful relationship between Hilmar himself and a Chinese official that get along well.

Geo-politically, it is certain S.Korea and China are antagonistic.
In terms of the gaming industry, China has its own gaming/telecom mega-giants whom want the market for themselves.

PA also has a subsidiary Corp in Taiwan, from which they launch some of their services, and Taiwan is DEFINITELY antagonistic with China.

I wouldnt be surprised if just the simple fact of the existence of this PA subsidiary in Taiwan makes it impossible (legally or conventionally) for PA to do ANY business in China, whatsoevr.

(Nana Skalski) #2311

Maybe its actually the reality, and PA thought that when Iceland and CCP have good relations with China, they will get a foothold in China. Maybe that “idependent” CCP is for Chinese, but when we have seen thru PA intentions, Chinese wouldnt? That bonus is so telling. RISK!

(Salvos Rhoska) #2312

I dont think China will be fooled for CCP doing business in China under PA ownership, as somehow “Icelandic” rather than S.Korean/Taiwanese.

I also dont think Iceland has any clout to politically/diplomatically wedge China open for CCP (read: PA by proxy), regardless of the geothermal deal, especially when CCP is now a 100% foreign owned company that happens to be registered/HQd in Iceland.

Afaik make out, trade between Taiwan and China is almost non-existent, and China/S.Korean trade is complicated by boycotts/tariffs and geo-politics.

(Ima Wreckyou) #2313

I’m not surprised you would think that. Your other views suggest you are quite far detached from reality

(Predvodnica LSG) #2314

It is much more complicated …

e.g.

(Salvos Rhoska) #2315

Indeed.

Considering that also, I think its very unlikely CCP will retain any license to operate in China, as now under the ownership of S.Korean and especially Taiwanese interests (as owners of PA).

Even if there are guys in CCP with connections in China to aid getting a license, they will be co-opted into PA, or flat out head-hunted by a 3rd party to get their experience/connections onboard.

People with good relations to Chinese officials are worth their weight in gold on the market. Those are notoriously difficult to gain, as a both modern and ancient adage, paraphrased: Only once you have been invited into their home to dine together with their family, is the relationship anything other than superficial. You will have to do the same, as well, and pull out all the stops and spare no expense. That is a great honor, and privilege, with great responsibility attached. On the plus side, once that happens, you are “in”, for life. After that, short-changing or deceiving you, in anyway at all, is a great dishonor to their entire family, past/present and future, as is true of you doing the same, on your part.
