so what will we ultimately have a quality game in that short cycle, instead of having 15 years with a bad semi-product
It will for a while at least. But that model involves constant new jesus features to keep players interested and rebuilding parts of the game all the time. When blizzard released an ‘update and rebalance’ expansion rather than one focused on a huge new feature, its sub levels halved in a couple months. Its player turnover is huge compared to eve.
I highly doubt EVE will be able to maintain such constant development with its PITA code and small size.
You’re thinking eve will go on for years like a wow-clone. It wont. Its longevity is purely from its hardcore player base. This game IS its community. We ARE the content creators.
Hardcore player is not the same as old player. Its just about attracting the right kind of new player. Someone who would fit into eve and integrate well with the community. Thats why EVE’s growth was slow but steady where as other MMO’s got massive initial subs and then died shortly after. Blizzard has to constantly throw new and huge content at its players to keep them interested. In EVE we kept eachother interested.
Trying to appease the carebears meant that the new players looking for the free and brutal PvP EVE they read about were disappointed and didnt stick around. And then the carebears never stick around, in any game, its just their nature.
But now you’ve got your wish.
It’s probably long past the time in my life for me to stop wasting time on video games anyway. If I had all the hours spent on Eve over the last ten years back again…thanks for the wake up call, CCP.
Mate I understand you are trying to be optimism but fact is a business deal with 450mils as a price to its acquisition, what ever others explainations they offered in article, it would be general talks which doesn’t thave legal power,
fact is CCP’s has been bought up and no longer exists like before, and the owner of eve online now is pearl abyss, and he can do anything he likes including altering terms and such, that’s what acquisition is mate.
And what ever happens, owner determine its property not creator, worst of all, there’s no way back, even CCP’s starting a new engine they can’t use any patterns from eve online as pearl may registering.
lol you know feck all about this game, stfu scrub.
Nope.
That mechanic was present the day Eve went live, it was there from the very beginning.
From a personal point of view he did the right thing by getting his ASSets out safely…in fact he just gave us the first real world usage of “asset safety” lol, however this also means that he is no longer invested …lets be honest when your personal well being is on the line…you push yourself harder. When you can just look at the $30 million in your bank account and know that your good no matter what…whether EVE does well or shuts down…it changes your perception massively…and most likely our work ethic also.
Not to the extent it is now. Lest I don’t remember Citadels and such when I started back in 2007.
According to annual financial statements that was real price.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared. A company like CCP being acquired by a Korean company just makes me scared.
That was all about it, now he does not care any more. ( Dont give a ■■■■ about Eve any more )
Now I’m really hoping CCP Hilmar said ‘…but I can double that…’
He knows it won’t be EvE anymore, just a monetized facsimile. Best to take the money and run.
CODE are poor bastards and noone want them, except for punching bags.
F
RIP Eve was a good run
Unlikely, and extremely complicated, including potential legal issues regarding insider trading.
Good explanation on this acquisition mate, it’s just a game and they some how managed to remind us tho, but I do believe their efforts to expand its survivibility including their tryies to other technology advancement like virtual reality,
its just not ready yet and with all efforts they put, they need money to stay operational and be able to talk to their investor, what ever happens mate, I bet it’s just has to happen, too bad the game has such understanding on building environment for its mechanics has to go across to traditional grinding game styles, I meant successful to Black desert iant hard to image with convincing or accomodating 1/10 of Korean local population to take the game on their life style, would easily give a number of 5.1million subscribers, that sounds good for a game doesn’t it? But the big buck there is not about running a game internationally and inovativeky, its about accommodating local youth generations along its population and culture set,
its about the community they serving sole in a particular large population
Yup ! Eve gets HTFU !!!
True. Although it could mean that the $30M was paid out in PA shares rather than cash cash.
Hah! So I was right in my estimate!
