Dev blog: Black Desert Online makers Pearl Abyss to acquire CCP!

You do realize Hilmar is STILL CEO of CCP right???

Sure do, My point was he cashed out so this was in his best interest to do the sale for obvious reasons mainly his own bank account. I’m still naïve in my hope this wont end bad for the game. I really hope this deal won’t kill Eve but the almighty dollar tends to ruin things……

I have to say I don’t blame him, 20 years is a long time to do something, but it doesn’t help us who love the game…

he didn’t cash out, the investors did. it went from financial investors who cared about the bottom line, to gaming investors.

I remember out investors cashing out and our independent studio becoming an independent solely-owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation.

Actually I loved working for Sony - but let’s not pretend Sony was “not calling the shots”.

Holy non sequiturs Batman!

This has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever read. What this implies is that all of the things we have that make our lives better really aren’t needed…that they are a waste of money and that people, in general, are just stupid idiots. But we should put “smart people” in charge who can make sure the idiots don’t do things to make their lives better.

Uhhhmmm…that money is going to General Catalyst and NEA who own CCP Games…not CCP.

Then they better do that right quick. Because EVE players have little stomach for p2w. So what will likely happen is the current EVE player base will leave quickly. And suddenly CCP does not have the revenue coming in so PA will have to support it while it makes the changes to do points 1, 2 and 3…which means risking $425 million from their IPO. Good luck with that. Maybe it will work, but it is a gamble.

On the other hand I hear BDO’s market sucks donkey balls. I hear some of their PvP sucks donkey balls. Yet CCP has managed to do those two things right and has pretty good player retention. What is the player retention in BDO?

And as @Ima_Wreckyou says, maybe PA will implement ganking in BDO and us EVE Players can come and kill a whole lotta you BDO guys.

Oh look, a useless scrub pretending he works for PA, everyone. Quick…do what he says. :joy:

This.

Everyone thinks that this acquisition will mean lots and lots of more players in EVE Online. However, the current player base will likely leave in droves…heck some are already. Once the stupid cash shop is implemented you could see many, many more players leave. And these awesome new graphics/look do not come overnight. So while you build the, essentially new game, you have much less revenue coming in. And EVE Online has a reptutation for being ruthless and cutthroat so you’ll need to overcome that impression with your marketing…which means even more money out the door on top of your $425 million. Now we could be looking at $500 million out the door before you start to see this “massive influx of players”…which may or may not happen.

This is what is better known as “magical thinking.”

Dude… Hilmar owned 10% of CCP. He’s gonna get 42.5 million USD from his share of the deal.

And then he can just leave CCP and enjoy his reward for 18 years of CEOing. Not too bad for a guy without any kind of formal studies in business administration…

IT"S THE END!!!

CCP said it raises them money. Best you tell them when you think it doesn’t give them anything. Maybe they’re doing it wrong.

Its not that. Every new additional game in development is what made them spend less on EVE, so people could think that what they pay is not enough for development of EVE. In fact we got new games constantly, they were nothing special and CCP barely got their money back on them. Much of profit is because their business still is profitble even when they spend millions on development every year. Profitable because of spaceships in EVE.

I want to be completely honest when it comes to this developer blog. Honestly I am anxious to see what is going to happen to EVE as It is the game I keep going back to despite my life being so chaotic for the last 10+ years. I think that from the financial stand point that CCP couldn’t keep EVE running forever and innovation is the true face of growth. Acquisitions don’t always work well, but we need to remember that EVE will never truly die; as long as we continue to tell others to come back and enjoy the new changes to null, low and even high sec. DUST 514 is another way that Pearl Abyss could truly utilize the EVE universe and keep us to colonize the universe. The New Eden we know today is not that we knew 15 years ago, however we must keep Eden alive if we hope to continue this close knit community.

Less we forget Sean “Wild Rat” Smith and those who passed on and of course the memory of the late Stephen Hawking; We need to keep our hearts and our passion alive for all those EVE players who have crossed over and this blog is only another way that CCP can hold the memory into the next century … I do not think that Pearl Abyss will truly ruin EVE but as many have said that the rules will still be made by CCP, but all I can say is this…

We must continue our fight

We must continue our voices

We must Honor

We must survive.

Changes after the sell will not come overnight.

Even the faces on the top will not be changed overnight.

Give it one year, after it we will see the course PA will steer the game.or they will have sunk it.

In any way we will have an answer…

Judging by previous posts they’ll start by changing a couple of prominent features. We’ll just have to keep abreast of any changes and do our best to handle them.

You silly boy, who will YOU handle …
:joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

If PA/CCP introduce Gold Ammo and breast physics resculpts, I can only see the economy going into a boom and bust cycle.

Wow, are you still predicting the end of EVE and the coming of your carebear paradise. Little hint: CCP are still in control and their game produces a lot of revenue while at the same time BDO is going completely down the drain. So if anything then PA will take some things out of the books of CCP and apply it to their game.

Looks like HTFU is coming to BDO and you will have to look for another game as a farming simulator

Just noticed it is on sale right now on Steam, may actually pick it up and start to introduce the good folks there to the Code. Judging from your bot-aspirant attitude they are in dire need of some James 315 gospel over there
