The hull cost is 5x that of a fitted Hulk, but it has 20x times the ore holding capacity. Like I said, it would only provide more incentive to solo AFK, no matter the cost…
I guess it depends on the Region. It’s really hard to AFK mine in most areas in high-sec.
Again, regardless of the AFK aspect, the Orca is mining FLEET command ship. You can’t even sit in one without having trained fleet command skills. That is its purpose. It is not, and was never intended to be, a solo mining ship…
Yes, well - things change. There’s a lot of “solo” gameplay these days - even if multiboxed.
Multiboxing is not soloing, it’s just what people do who don’t have friends online. Solo means one ship and one pilot.
Solo can mean anything from one ship to multiple ships controlled by the same player.
In the context of MMOs, soloing is doing things alone and not multiboxing. If a dungeon is soloable, it means only need one to do it, no fleets, no parties, etc.
Solo means one player, one ship. Multiboxing, which can also be done “solo”, you will still be part of a fleet, even if it’s with yourself.
Well, there is a rather inefficient…comparatively…concept. BCs and Command Dessies can be used for mining fleet boosting.
And factoring in comman dessies can boosh the miners closer to ships or structures.
I remember back in 2020…the day after Scarcity started…I got to experience a Rorqual [ironically in Tabbetzur] this was the old system. So a Rorqual had to deploy, and then you access the deployed Rorquals fleet and compression bay. You had to fly up and then do it.
Most miners kept MWDs/ABs…and if you coordinated…you could mine within the warp to rules. [150km+]
Also boosts could be reset off grid and “carried” to the mining situation.
There was a lot of options to the problems in game.
But that usually isn’t discussed.
Basically the modern arguments are based around a deadset concept of simplification which has unintended consequences.
Wow right when you started playing the game ![]()
Fixed it for you.
One of many bad ideas…
I’m in a HS belt right now. I have one rock 95km away in one direction and another 100km away in the opposite direction.
So… not all belts are tiny.
Guess you’re gonna need 2 industrial command ships for that belt…
Or you… move. I know, it’s a strange concept, but Mining ships CAN MOVE. There is a button in the UI that allows even mining ships (even Orcas!) to speed up and change location (usually called “moving”). So if you begin at one end of the belt and every once in a while move a bit to the other side, voilá, you can mine the whole belt with a single command ship and a bunch of miners.
You can also use bookmarks and rewarp to reposition the command ship within the belt. Any Asteroid can be used as warpin point.
Great, isn’t it?
But wait, maybe thats all way too complex and inconveninent. Porpoise and Orca should have a Boost Range of 1000km and Mining ships a Laser Range of at least 950km! CCPlease!
Lol dont say that as they will want it back like the old days when orca didnt even have to be on grid to boost.
If you ask them, they will probably want an automated belt-drill that they can buy on an NPC-station (so it can’t be attacked) for solo-usage, which farms all belts in the system 24/7 and beaming the ore directly into their personal hangar. Ah… no. Directly to Jita!
Just like gankers wanted to be able to PvP on an Alpha account. Everyone wants something for free without having to work for it.
Huh. I didn’t realize ships could move. What a novel concept! I must try that out sometime…
Coughs you guys are not remembering that the Hulk with Harvest implants in…can hit…33 [nominal]-35 km[Halcyon Y-5 in]
ORCA boosting the Hulk is about 60km-75km [Halcyon Y-5 in]
However. The Rorqual…wait for it…boosts the Hulk to 86km-95km [Halcyon Y-5 in] And remember the Roqual is capable of boosting ships over a 216km range.
This is maximum ranges that I know of currently.
