I mean we actually have already in the game…the Triglavian Resource Collection Nexus…so I am not surprised if the option for “automated” mining via deployables will be argued in the future.
However, it would be a major bugger bear to defend…yes the ability to drop something on the anoms/belts to mine would be absolutely fun for the groups who just want to concentrate on PVP…until they start getting the attack notifications on every single one of their deployables. The more you put out your increase your defense footprint…and you can’t always be on to defend.
You do know that fleets form among strangers in ice fields right? Fleets form among strangers. Strangers are people outside corps.
Removing shipboard compression will put an end to a lot of compression and future connections. Most of my contacts are people I met in ice fields. Not all my compression is done by corp members.
But if you feel that all Eve players are trustworthy, go ahead and prove it to me.
Sounds to me like you just want to nerf high sec mining even more and for no good reason.
Compression is not “something for nothing”. The Orca pilot trained those skills. He bought the skills and spent months training them. If the pilot chooses to offer ships the benifit of his hard work, that’s up to him not you.
You dont get to dictate how he uses the fruits of his labor. It takes all in all close to a year to train up an Orca and the fit from a brand new account. It’s the choice of the Orca pilot who he wishes to grant compression. No one can choose that for him.
Why is that? You see the mining amounts in the fleetlogs and easily give people their compressed Ore after the fleet is done. Has been done for years, worked fine. Do you believe there weren’t public fleets before shipboard compression existed?
Orca pilots invite people to fleet so that they can use compression. That’s how compression works. You cannot compress if youre not in a fleet with an Orca.
In ice belts, many times, fleets are formed among strangers. Allowing all the strangers access to the fleet hold means that ore there can be pulled in or out by anyone. It’s a good way to lose you ore.
It’s been done for years like this without any ore theft? Yeah right. Shipboard compression removed the possibility of theft which allows for safe compression and you know it.
But hey prove me wrong. Prove to us all here that no eve player would ever steal from another. I’ll wait.
They have to JETTISON their ore and the Orca pilot TRACTORS it in, thats why the Orca has a tractor beam bonus. Then the Orca compresses it and KEEPS IT. And at the end of the session each miner gets paid by looking at the fleetlog/mining ledger. Either in ISK or Compressed Ore.
That is what cooperation means. And that is how it was done for years and it worked. Yes, the invited pilots had to TRUST the Orca pilot. And that one could build a REPUTATION and even at some point hire the “strangers” for their corporation.
Sorry. That’s what this conversation is about- following an orca around giving the orca all your ore so the orca does all the compression. No more compressing and keeping your own ore- people are advocating ending shipboard compression
I think that ship has sailed (rolling it back as a feature). I like it - I use it - but I could also work around not having it available… Not a deal breaker for me, but I can see how some players would view it as a QoL nerf.
That’s fine for corp fleets, but not really for a fleet where randoms have been invited like the Ice mining fleet I join now and then near me.
As an Orca pilot myself it would be a pain having to compress and keep a track of who gave what to be compressed now especially if they don’t stay until the whole field is gone, like me if I just need half a load, then you’re having to jetcan it to them.
Can’t have it all. I mean, just go to the Fleet finder and look for “Public Mining Fleets”. You’ll find not even a handful even in the best prime times of each timezone.
Considering what has been lost in active cooperation and relation-building and from devaluating the Commandship pilots to bored afk-alt boosters, I’d screw shipboard compresson all day. Those random out-of-corp-strangers that sometimes get invited to other peoples fleet are simply niche compared to the HUGE amount of corpfleets around. And it even gives them a reason and motivation to join your corp. Because you can simply tell them: Youll get boosts for free, but if you want to compress you have to be in corp.
I know we won’t agree here, but for many mechanics you simply have to look what is gained and what is lost from a change. And the losses here are much more severe than the bit of convenience gained. It was another step in favour of multiboxers and another hit for cooperations of real players.
Make salvage reprocess-able back into minerals, so they become more of a commodity? Also, the exact reprocessed minerals doesn’t have to be a set figure. It can be a surprise based on a math formula. So that way, players get a surprise, and CCP can also use this formula to slightly adjust mineral supply.
Also, maybe introduce salvage into PI ? for example, make planets rig-able to alter their properties and output?
