Devblog: Skills On Demand - Changes Coming To The Skill System!

Or because you’re giving your customers options to suck more ISK right out of the game if they want convenience.

Seriously CCP, I am disappointed with your view that this part of the skill system and the changes you’ve proposed here are really going to improve the NPE. Normally, I don’t care about the changes you’ve made in the past. They generally, have either made the game play different or better. However, this one is just to far out there for a “I don’t care what you change” player like myself. There are so many other areas of this game system that are many times more impactful on the NPE than this is area. Like the screen layout and the use of tables to track stuff. I would like to suggest you spend you time analyzing this area of the NPE as it is more heavily used than the skills.

Good changes, nice QoL for new players.

Btw CCP why do you allow the same 3 people to completely derail your announcement threads every time?

So, instead of buying a physical skillbook for basic skills, i can download the e-book instead?

Evil !!
EvE will break down because of it.

Everyone who don’t want this shoud fill out the official form and sent it to CCP

No, worse! Now the in-universe system that lets millions of skill points instantly transit 100 LY to go from ‘boom’ to ‘new clone’ can be used to send skills in the other direction!

I mean, clearly, we should all have to make a corpse run to loot our old skills, like we did in EQ, right?

Care Bears - Nanny State.

Once more the game is being spoilt in the “interests” of new players. Why? Why does CCP keep breaking what works?

Very sad that another simplification is being add to what was a super game.

This is a very big quality of life improvement, especially for players who aren’t within easy range of a trade hub or university station. It simplifies getting access to skills, while at the same time not destroying the market for skill books and keeping the high-end and specialized ones on the market.

I’m very much looking forward to this change.

My only feedback to the skill system is I’ve always hated the skill icon being represented by a book. It’s dated and old fashion for a sci-fi game. It’s as if my capsuleer is tearing a page out of each skill book and eating it.

In fact, I think many of the item icons are very…dated. Kinda shows the age of this game, yet hard to believe EVE client will go to 64 bit soon.

Maybe you can do a quick update with a new icon to represent skill training media other than with a book?

For the record, this applies more to highsec than Delve. As Merk said, we’re pretty well stocked. I had a harder time getting skills in Inoue than I do in 1dq, and that was just 1 gate to Isaziwa.

Thorax shaped electronic device?

Exactly. This isn’t really a nullsec thing.

Something! Maybe a cool helmet like X-Men’s Cerebro

Go lookup the definitions. Once you understand them, rethink this statement.

Make it a floppy disk icon ^^

Again you are fixing things that are not broken.
But perhaps will be.

As long as there will not be a ‘Buy PLEX (min 110 PLEX for $4.99) now to get enough ISK to buy these books’ worked into the dialog I guess this is not terrible.

I can also see this being a precursor to paying for direct injection of the skill to level X, where needed including any prerequisites. This could be a first step towards creating Skill micro transactions which is a very slippery slope.

I would love to see this markup be a floating price based on the current trade hub price – keep the market as the main driver of the game without setting a hard ceiling.

I can see in some ways that people would feel that skills are hard. but frankly I’m against this change for a simple reason – I don’t want EvE dumbed down. Instead of hand-feeding a newbro and furthering the state of brain death, perhaps systems could be put in place to teach the newbros how to use a critically essential to EvE-life skill – how to use the market system, and how to not get scammed on it. How to purchase skills is a precursor to how to buy their first ship and fittings without getting screwed on the market.

EvE generally has had a saying since years ago – when a player quits EvE to go back to WoW, the IQ of both games raises.
This kinda goes hand in hand with the 10 seconds of attention span and no brainwork whatsoever of many games on the market today.

Let the newbros rub those two braincells together and get 'em sparking. If they get smarter from it, then great. If they fizzle out, EvE really just isn’t the game for them.

Plenty of discussion everywhere about what “Core Skills” means.

Is it a specific subset of skills or just “All skills that are currently seeded by NPCs on the Market from Frigates and Small Autocannons right up to Titan/Doomsday Operation skills”?

Seems to be the latter from what I’m reading but doesn’t hurt to ask.

Imagine if you live in null, titans are a core skill. Cruiser gangs in null are meh, when you get two jumps into the roam and get 5 titans bridged onto a 10 man frig-cruiser sink gang…
