Devblog: Skills On Demand - Changes Coming To The Skill System!

Honestly, I am amazed that you don’t get it. As long as everything goes right for you - sure going to buy a skill book is not interesting. Sure having someone bring you a skillbook is not interesting. But, when you are in space flying around, you are available for pvp. Maybe you will be ganked, maybe you will run that gate camp with your expensive books. You know once upon a time when I was a newish player I bought a book in rancer because it was cheaper. I flew in and was almost ganked at a gate camp. I then flew to station and injected my book. Then I flew back to the gate where I was insta popped by a smartbombing battleship. I tried to jump the gate in my pod but didnt know about the session change so I got popped. Now I did lose my frig, but you know what? It was interesting. You know what is not interesting? empty systems, empty pipes. No pvp because everyone is docked.

Instead of giving people reasons to stay docked - ccp should be making it so that people have reasons to fly around - to go to the belts and travel between systems. Sure skill books is a mundane minor issue - but if you have lots of little things that make people move around then you have an aggregate effect.

maybe when people don’t have to hop in travel ceptors to go get a skill book they will instead be able to hop in a combat ship and go shoot things, which I think we can all agree is more interesting that getting smartbombed

You are talking about the 1% of ppl who actually use ceptors to buy their books. And while they introduced this as “Helping new players understand the game more” you are not talking about the new players when you think about ceptors. Traveling around getting smartbombed is ur own fault not the books.

And thoose ppl who “Go out toget a book insted of getting into pvp” Never pvp.

o rly?

sunesis is much better than travel ceptor in HS. harder, better, faster, cargoer.

Venture. Built-in warp stab.

Warp stab ain’t saving ya when you get volleyed. Align time is top priority with tank/warpstab sharing second. At best.

I absolutely dont like this chage. The main reason why i prefer EVE Online over other games is that i believe in this universe, it feels so real. And i like it that if you need something, you have to fly to the certain station and buy it. I dont want it to be simplified. Look at WOW, you had to buy skills from trainer there and then they changed it, and together with other changes in made WOW universe flat and dead. I dont like Abyss because it looks so unrealistic and “artifical” in EVE universe, and now this skills thing. Please CCP dont do it!

Yeah, but you can fit/rig the venture for a fast align time.

Do you not believe in iTunes?

Not below 2s you’re not, and if you’re not aligning in less than two seconds you’re not a travel anything. You’re gankbait.

@CCP_Affinity

Either CCP dont understand the market they are about to kill off Or you do and killing off this entire market is exactly what they want

Your saying your killing off the skillbook resale market And your not going to provide any buyback at all :open_mouth:

Just leaving the players with isk in this market to take the financial loss Is kind of a shitty thing to do :frowning:
(Make no mistake about it You are killing off this market whether you realize it or not)

Personally i think this is a horrible idea And i dont get why this got any dev. time at all :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Non the less if you end-up doing this can you add a bayback So ppl at least get there isk back

Characters have no meaning anymore.

All the real attachment to their development and skill planning is gone.

“Convenience” is taking too much away from the game.

not everyone uses travelceptors. Yet one more thing we are going to lose. Stupid people doing stupid things. Like traveling with plex or injectors.

Every update eve becomes less about the choices a player makes and the consequences of their actions, and more cookie cutter. The game is less interesting and less fun then it was seven years ago. The numbers of players currently in the game reflect that fact.

One of the things I like about Eve is that it’s not easy. I wanted a challenging game when I started 5 years ago and while some of the QOL improvements are great, some are just unnecessary. I think this is one of the necessary ones. I’m not saying bring back the Learning Cliff, though I had no issue with a challenging game but we don’t need to make it Fortnight either.

Just my 2isk

That is why you are in the CSM.

It’s not that I don’t get it. It’s that I simply disagree with you that this kind of content is fun or engaging for either side.

Skill traders will likely use a jump freighter to move stuff around and they won’t only be running skill books. That won’t change, even if the skill books go away.

What you end up seeing is instawarp interceptors moving around to grab a book. The only way to kill these with any certainty is to use smart bombing battleships (or a boson. but you have to be really safe to waste a boson on one interceptor) parked on the gate in a pipe system with cloaky eyes on the other side so you don’t get dropped.

Is that exciting gameplay? Not really. The only time I’ve enjoyed doing the smart bomb thing is wiping out claw fleets coming in to harass our ratters in Querious. Sitting on a gate for an hour after downtime hoping catch the one schumck who doesn’t use a ping and forgets to online his invuln when he’s landing is not my idea of fun.

If it’s yours, that’s great. There are still plenty of other reasons for people to take out interceptors for you to smart bomb. This change won’t make a huge difference.

As much as I like these changes, one thing they will not do is cure stupid.

These changes aren’t bad and aren’t good at the same time. It will take time until players will figure out the quality of these changes. We have many RL examples how the instant teleportations, overall simplification, dungeon granulation, instant graduation changed a lot of MMOs in a bad way. There are examples where even simplifications to the in game professions ruined the game.

My character bought skillbooks and learned almost all none-Capital skills and I didn’t found any issues with it. I’m surprised that this is a common issue for other players. Once I docked at a school NPC station, I bought all frigate required skills firstly, next time, - all Cruiser and Industrialist skillbooks and e.t.c.

With such a course of game development, I’d like to be able to right-click on a character mug to summon a needy Combat or Exploration Signature in my current system from drop-down menu. Because it just requires too much time to jump throught 70 null-sec hostile systems to find and successfully complete them…
