The blanket answer for this is wrong. So is the metric they are using to tell if their changes are successful or not. Both are wrong. And they won’t take enough time in front of a white board to hammer out the complex issues that arise from being in the sandbox. This is a big change that is significant to a huge population and it doesn’t seem well thought out. And it also effects beyond the war dec system into the crimewatch system that a lot of people participate in.
Now, let’s not go overboard. They’re definitely trying, and they have limited amounts of time to think about this. But there’s more of us (players) than there are of them (devs). Get enough brains on this, and we can run through permutations and complications faster than they’ve been able to.
Why? its a arbitrary deadline. They came out with the FAX change and reverted it right away to spend more time on it to get it right.
Noone expects a 15 year problem to be fixed in 3 months.
You new? Half assed changes with major foreseeable side-effects are the usual (eg Citadels 2.0 made timezone tanking WORSE even though it was supposed to reduce it).
Best we can hope for at this stage is to get simple changes made.
No, it’s not. Believe me, there’s a lot of highsec groups who were watching for this update. If they didn’t have something to announce soon, it would’ve been another promise to iterate that they’d abandoned.
I can attest to this! I was holding them to their Q1 2019 statement.
?? Why? You know these guys can’t even get the MER out on the same date each month. And some months skip it all together.
Wouldn’t it be viable to publish a dev blog on what needs to happen long-term and then only make interim changes that are needed while the proper fix goes on?
Because this was a major change to high-sec warfare, and one that’s been waited-for since the last set of summit minutes. One of the big worries was that they were going to reduce HS war options to N+1 structure warfare… and they did.
You mean like the one they put out in November/December?
They should fly @Arrendis to them with @Kalaratiri so they can be walked through the right changes to this. Put you guys up in a really nice hotel too. Add @R-0-B-0-C-O-P too.
@Brisc_Rubal had his chance. Send these guys there. People that actually play in these systems.
-----> While your there fix the MX bays to act like upwell structures as far as docking while pointed.
Because when CCP stands in front of Eve Vegas and vilifies your gameplay and then announces what appear to be half-hatched ideas with an initial knee-jerk reaction to come in that December… it makes one worry.
I’ve been very eager for this moment. Ask Brisc, I’ve been bugging the ■■■■ out of him.
Can we share rooms?
I think it because most wars are decced against high sec corps and CCP probably forsees these war deccing corps hiding their war HQs deep in null or any secluded area. Pretty much defeating the purpose of a war if you have to travel to null and fight everyone. CCP is 100% right here.
I guess you’d have to ask person A and person B if person C…
The December dev blog didn’t lay out anything like what I’m talking about, no.
If there’s a November one, I haven’t managed to dig it up.
We’re talking literally like: “Neutral logi that can’t be attacked is being abused. A Proper fix will involve redoing the way we store X,Y, and Z to mitigate the impact of crimewatch. In the interim, we’re taking these steps.” vs. “ummm… lot’s of people complain about this, so we’re doing exactly what they ask”
They will never announce the final result of their processes before it’s ready for release. The Summer of Rage after Incarna taught them that lesson: do not build in expectations you have to meet.
So instead, they end up building in expectations that they won’t meet anyone’s expectations. Which is a shame, because they’re working their butts off on all this, but I get the feeling they could use another half-again their current staff.
I think they should take more time on this issue. This isn’t structure skins we are talking about. Postpone the change and get these three people over to them for a week in front of the whiteboard. Then work on the code and don’t erase the white board.
Well, the strength of players kicking around ideas is… there’s more than 3 of us.
Really, if we had, I dunno, 20 people kicking around ideas all weekend? Then we might have something worth offering up. But short of that? It’ll be horribly rough, and probably unworkable.
This does nothing to cure or curb the hunter killer (lol or Trade hub campers often same same) Alliances/Corps that wardec multiple opponents sometimes running 3+ “wars” at the same time.
Each conflict should cost 50% + as much as the previous one.
It’s NOT all pew pew. Many of us have had the real thing and don’t give a damn about it. We like the beauty and the calm, building is always harder than tearing down.
If you want more of that let us be members of cool alien species (Cat people anyone Kizin perhaps) with their own adjacenty connected star clusters to engage from entrances like WH to get out or in. FW or just plain old war would take off with THEM.
Not in current EVE.
