I hope I do find such a corporation, Ultramar.
There’s a fleet I’ve flown with that has members who can’t use voice due to social restrictions. As long as you can hear the FC, and respond in text in fleet-chat where necessary, I don’t see why it’s regarded as a problem by Corps rule-makers.
Maybe they’re open minded ? Or would it be because they’re close minded.
Which is it ? Do they have an empty head or actually have thoughts of their own ?
@Red-Sonja - also, check this out before continuing corp searching. There are a lot of corps in EvE, some good and unfortunately some bad. If you find you’ve accidently joined a bad one, don’t hesitate to leave it.
As has been said, listening is what is important, not talking on comms. You’ll be fine.
@Xuxe Xu
That’s what I’m afraid of, being accepted into a bad corporation.
A friend of mine told me, when I mentioned I’m now playing EVE, that he joined a corporation 41 jumps away from his home sistem out in Null and after a few weeks he decided that corp. wasn’t for him. He told me as soon as he left it that some of the members podded him everytime he tried to move his stuff out of their station.
That’s all kinds of messed up. I don’t remember which corp it was but I remember their logo is a yellow hazardous sign, from his description. So I know to avoid applying to that one when I see it but how many corporations are arseholes that way ?
EVE has a bad reputation as far as players’ toxicity is concerned and more shenanigans I have no time to describe here… Makes chosing a corporation some kind of a headache and makes me think not twice but thrice about joining up with a group.
Well, he could move assets before he quit or stated that he will quit
EVE is not toxic. It is cruel just as RL.
If you find corps with bad CEOs who encourage you to stay docked when in danger …
… or who have an unreasonably high corp tax with lots of new players in corp …
… remember to report them to the players, on the forums.
Or, of course, make friends with tons of other new players …
… then shoot down the CEO, steal all the corp assets you can …
… and make a new corp with all the people you took with you.
Don Purple style.
In any case, there’s usually someone who goes after such bad CEOs, even though they don’t publicly reply.
EVE isn’t real life and there’s an army of forum warriors who never miss an opportunity to remind us of that so, yea, it’s toxic not cruel like real life.
Oh, many…but that actually doesn’t necessarily mean they are bad people or a particularly bad corp They could be, but that sort of thing is kind of EvE-ish really. Never complain no matter what and if someone tries to or does mess you over, figure out how to get around or through the situation and how to get them back (even if it might take awhile). Welcome to EvE.
*meh - well such critics can all go take a running jump. EvE is a lot of fun.
I will quit a corp that hints that I should stay docked.
I won’t join a corporation that seeks to make me a farmer.
I’ve read lots of ads for corporations but sadly they don’t include enough info for a noob to make up his mind without reservations.
I’d like to join a small group that engages in all sorts of activities.
If I don’t find a home before I’m ready to go Omega then maybe I’ll have to start my own.
Oooh, revenge. I like the sound of that !
hypocrisy? As a new player you seams to very quickly jump to conclusions and judge everyone in instant.
Most of corporations have people in them that recruit people. Talk to them, and ask what you want to know about corporation. And don’t trust anyone, even yourself. This the best advice for approaching new people in game. Remember that others will treat you same way. You must earn your trust and reputation. If something is looking to good, it’s probably a scam.
Hi Red-Sonja,
I often partake in fleets as a line member and almost never speak, and am never asked to (noted I rarely perform a scouting role where oral communication might be more prevalent). If I have questions I’ll ask in fleet chat e.g. what ships can i use etc. Listening is far more important so you can follow direction, although I have seen cases where there have been people in fleet with listening impairments and the FC will make sure to broadcast directions in the fleet window or have a corp mate replay commands in chat. EVE can be inclusive to all and don’t be put off by the initial “requirements” of corps which are designed with the majority in mind, I think you will find flexibility out there.
No.
I have read many times on these forum not to compare EVE to real life. I didn’t write it myself, I read it.
You never read that on here? Never ever ? Did I dream it then ?
Yes, from the very good answers in this thread, including yours, I can imagine myself joining a corporation where I’ll feel at home. I know it’s possible and I’ll be spending some time mailing recruiters and trying to get more detailed answers rather than the generic “join us, we’re the best and welcome newbros blah blah…”
Thank you for posting
I probably did. I read about many things here. But you will learn soon that this forum is not most friendly place. You will learn over time how to find valuable advices.
Anyway. What I said, was only my experience of playing EVE for years. Trust me or not. Your choice. But there is not need to be harsh just because someone has different opinion.
I apologize. I wasn’t aware I was coming off as harsh.
Can you tell me specifically what you found harsh, please? It will help me in the future.
Gee, I hadn’t noticed
I think I’ll ask in-game and take advice from friends I make in the game.
Thank you much!
Fly Crazy
I was reading up on Warp To Me incursions who have a Discord requirement to join them, but interestingly they only require that you listen. To quote their page:
“It does not matter if you have a microphone, but you must be able to hear the FCs, and pilots with their teamspeak muted (denoted by their icon) will be notified.”
While I’m not the most experienced when it comes to fleet activities, any time I have ever watched fleet warfare (and I do so a lot, back to the Rooks and Kings days) the main thing that strikes me is that in the heat of battle, or when important instructions / announcements are being made - the ordinary fleet members are expected to be quiet.
I’ve heard more than one ‘shut up!’ or more politely ‘comms!’’ when fleet members speak out of place.
Again, using Warp To Me as an example:
"The keyword “Check” is used to indicate the closing of open communications on TeamSpeak. In other words, stop talking if you hear “Check.”
TL;DR you are required to have Discord, you are not required to speak, and often you are required not to speak.
Good luck
I didn’t know anything about Warp To Me. I will definitely check it out. And listen, that I can definitely do.
Thank you so much for the info!
I liked your post but not sure it went through because I reached my limit. Maybe CCP will sell Forum Hearts for PLEX in the future?
Don’t give them ideas!
