I misused this chart earlier, but I think there is a meaningful data point for our discussion.
40% of people fleet up, i.e. 60% do not.

That entire chart is qualified with, ââŚon any given day.â
Itâs (literally) just a snapshot of log data.
Again, using my own characters, on any given day, 5 of them probably might not even undock.
On the flip side, I often have two characters in a fleet with just themselves, too.
Fleets are not the only means of interaction between people. Likewise, a belt miner can fleet with his alts to give them boosts. Itâs still not a great measure.
Damnit!
CCP, provide data!
Give myself over to the trigs you say hmmm, nope to busy saving the damsel but thanks for the offer o7.
People may argue what camp/side represents the majority of the preferred playstyle in EVE, but itâs clear that even whatever side is in the minority represents a very LARGE number of people.
CCP seeming to clearly develope new game assets and mechanics to heavily favor/cater to one side at the cost of greatly diminished opportunities for the other, NO MATTER WHAT SIDE IS WHICH, risks alienating a large enough group to jeopardize the long term financial health of the game.
The kicker is that CCP decides to start this upheaval and chaos and then goes for a 3-4 month walkabout leaving a communication blackout in these forums, creating an even more toxic and frustrating experience for their customers who have questions. Just crazy.
The main big implication is the next big pro trig move could actually cut highsec in half leaving amarr space to flounder by itself and making gallente the centre of the big bit. We had a lot who just came for Niarja and I expect as word gets around that there could be a âcut highsec in halfâ fight, we will have lots of pro trig who are ready to partake in the sundering. The Sundering.
You can regroup and rebuild after war. War loss isnât permanent. Unless war made people quit. That I admit is a meaningful permanent loss.
But highsec wardecs were recognized as broken mechanics, which drives lots of people off. And got fixed, right?
Hope Drifters and Trigs will at some point be recognized as broken mechanics. How is it a sandbox when they kept fixing Drifters when people found new ways to kill them solo in subcaps in their early age? They didnât even have good loot. GrblgrblâŚ
The gates in final liminality system will shut down and access to them will be only available thru special system of wormholes conecting them, ocasionally spawning normal wormhole to known space.
Triglavian space will be established and previously known systems removed from the map entirely. NPC stations will be destroyed with all assets and agents and Triglavian Stations will be put in place, replacing them.
The high sec islands that were disconected could then be conected by gates build by players, where there would be tax when crossing them 1 PLEX for CCP + set up price by player who built it.
Itâs almost always null sec trolls posing as a caricature of a high sec player. And guess what - those threads get locked.
Letâs hope so, that would be amazing.
This is coming to resemble a mass vandalization initiated by a group of guys with this game (which was interesting almost 20 years ago) becoming a millstone around their necks. Rather than enter into their twilight years trying to develop a game for what has become an increasingly unappreciative, two-dimensional (in thinking) playerbase, facing the inevitable sale of the game looming on the sunset laden horizon, theyâve decided to just trash it from within while musing to themselves, âI gotcher Burn Jita draggin.â
That is not exactly our fault. Have the people in high sec thought about organising a bit?
The fault for all that mess lies entirely on the CCP side. It was all their idea.
And you can rebuild after a highsec system is lost. Smart players will adapt to this change and continue to succeed.
But highsec wardecs were recognized as broken mechanics, which drives lots of people off. And got fixed, right?
Highsec war decs were not fixed, they were nerfed in a clumsy and unnecessary way because of the incessant whining of highsec farmer trash. Nothing about the situation is improved by the most recent changes.
Not for long. EVE is the only MMO that has had anything resembling appealing content and enough longevity to be worth investing in.
MMOs almost always containt a mixture of group content and solo content.
Well yes, and thatâs why most MMOs suck: they have tons of single player content, but because of the constraints imposed by being an MMO that content is always terrible compared to a proper single player game.
Iâd totally play a full single player EVE experience.
No you wouldnât, because what would be the point? You automatically win all combat PvE content, mining consists of nothing more than pressing F1 and letting your ship sit there until you decide you have enough minerals, the market doesnât exist at all, and thereâs no point in manufacturing anything because nobody is ever going to buy it.
Now, you might play an EVE-style game designed from the ground up to be a compelling single player game, but thatâs entirely different from EVE as it is now except with no other players.
And lazy highsec players had the idea to, once again, be helpless perma-victims and passively watch a bad thing happen to them. Nobody is forcing you to be bad at EVE and itâs not CCPâs fault that you refuse to learn.
But you donât want smart players. You want players who donât know any better than to stumble into your gate camp on a trade route on autopilot so you can press F1 to farm them.
I think whatâs heâs saying is that isolationist playstyles that create little to no content like solo-pve are not at the forefront of peopleâs concerns when making a pvp sandbox mmo.
Not that the playstyle should be deleted nor that such players must change their ways. Just donât expect anyone to bend over backwards to save something that has a track record of doing â â â â all for player retention.
No, I want smart players. I would love it if this autopilot scenario never happened because nobody is ever dumb enough to do it.
And games cost time and money. Do you have anything of substance to offer, besides nitpicking the exact phrasing of âIâm not going to buy a game that isnât funâ?
And so does EVE. I doubt CCP will be scrapping their single player content, so youâll just have to learn to live with it.
At least in EVE the single player content is a minor and relatively easy to ignore part of the game. I grudgingly accept that CCP isnât going to get rid of it because they want cash from their whales, but that doesnât mean Iâm obligated to pretend that it is interesting or worth participating in (other than to get ISK to do better things).
Entertainment. I play loads of single player games for entertainment. Most people don;t think games are their careers.
What is entertaining about sitting there pressing F1 as mindless NPCs (which are unable to ever hurt you) fly straight into your guns and die one by one? What is entertaining about turning on your mining lasers and going AFK until your ore hold is full? These things can have a purpose when they are obtaining resources to use on something more interesting, but hardly anyone would ever do them without that reward.
I imagine a single player EVE would have some AI elements added to mix things up and emulate a market, again, much like the original Elite.
IOW, youâre moving the goalposts and talking about an EVE-style game designed for a compelling single player experience instead of playing EVE without other players.
Not really, itâs exactly what we have now, except players do some of the things AI would do.
âItâs exactly like EVE, except for this major thing that isnât in any way like EVE.â
You dont come to help Trigs, Trigs come to you
Certain people in this thread should go play elite dangerous and let eve be eve. This isnât the first time systems have changed sec status, once safe routes are no longer safe and even entire star gates shifting. Iâve already adapted others will too. You forum warriors put half as much effort into the game as you do here youâd do fine as well.
