Do I want to move to null-sec?

I’ve been a high-sec care bear for many years. Problem is, I get bored with eve after 3-4 months, then go play other games…but I always come back to eve for 3-4 months a year, many times just managing my skill point queue during my hiatus.

I like doing PI, combat sites, ice mining and missions to a lesser extent. However, I’d like to fly some different ships that really dont have a place in solo pve…my dream ship is any ship that can provide links as well as repairs to armor or shields…perhaps a drekavac or a T3C…although I have no idea if there is an actual need for such a ship anywhere in eve.

I like the idea of living in sov null with a corp that has a buy-back program, and/or a hauling arrangement. I’m not too interested in worm-holes from what I’ve read, but I’ve never lived anywhere but high-sec.

I like the idea of living deep in sov null, helping where I can, getting my feet wet in fleet ops, etc, without being seen as a burden because of my lack of pvp experience. Is there a good place to start?

Posting from an alt, but thank you for any advice!

There’s not a lot of experience needed in sov warfare, it’s a lot of listening to the FC, aligning to what you’re told to, and shooting the designated targets. Logi is anchoring up and watching broadcasts for people needing help. Unless you choose a more active role, experience is not a requirement for CTAs and StratOps.

If you do choose a more active role, the good alliances have people willing to teach you what you need to know.

Sure, there’s need for such ships in some cases. I’ve flown support T3Cs with logi and links before in my alliance, but it’s not common. More usual are T2 logi cruisers for remote repairs, they’re cheaper and have stronger repairs, while T2 battlecruisers provide command links to a fleet with a much higher chance of survival than T3Cs due to their higher amount of effective hitpoints. So I often bring either of those two roles to my fleets rather than both at the same time in a T3 cruiser. But for covert ops fleets support T3Cs are a nice support addition and the only ships with good remote repair bonuses.

I expect most larger null alliances to have their own buy-back programs, hauling arrangements, willingness to teach newer players the basics of PvP and have opportunities for PI, combat sites and ice mining, as well as various things you haven’t mentioned.

Only missions are a bit rare in null sec, unless your alliance happens to live nearby NPC space. This generally is a risk as hostiles can stage from such NPC stations and drop blops ships on you as you try to run your combat and ice sites, so consider if this is something you want nearby.

From the sounds of it you may like it in null sec, give it a try!

Make Isk in Null, then got to Low for FW fun.

I’d love to fly a nighthawk or eos, (or really any command ship) but wasn’t sure if I could fly one if I wasn’t the FC. I’m mostly skilled into a nighthawk already, with maybe one tier left to train on my commander skills.

Missions are just something I do when I get tired of running the same combat sites, so lack of those in null wouldn’t bother me much, esp if there are mining fleets to join instead of running solo missions.

While I don’t fly the Nighthawk I do occasionally fly the Vulture. It’s more common in larger fleet fights than the Nighthawk which is bonused for smaller skirmishes. All command ships have a large fleet option and small skirmish option to fly.

Fleet Commanders may sometimes fly the Command Ships, but in larger fights it’s more common to see the FC fly in a Monitor as it’s much harder to headshot the FC in those ships. Also to cover 3 sets of links (info, skirmish and the fleet’s choice of armor or shield) you need multiple command ships anyway even if the FC flies one. Then the Command Ship roles are divided between some higher-SP characters in the fleet who have the links skills maxed and have a mindlink implant.

As role it’s not very interactive to fly a command ship, something like Logistics Cruiser is more fun to fly. But it’s a useful role to fill nonetheless and a big bonus to the fleet so someone has to do it. And because it isn’t very interactive it allows you to focus on a second account if you’ve got one. I’ve been trying to fly an interdictor on my alt sometimes.

Don’t listen to the wormholer, it’s fun! :stuck_out_tongue:

As a pvp noob, I kind of like the idea of a value added, less interactive role. ha! Would love to fly a command BC for someone during fleets. In other MMO’s, I usually play a buffing class, and for years now (12, I think) I’ve trained the command ship line whenever there wasn’t something more pressing to train but I’ve never actually flown one.

Null is fun.

Wormholes are more fun.

You want a value added role? Fly logi. Everyone loves logi.

DPS destroys the enemy, but logi wins the battle.

Logi definitely is a rewarding role. I’ve always liked the role of healer in games, especially fun in PvP games to deny others kills on your team members. And for some reason few players are willing to do so so there’s always a demand for more healers.

And the whack-a-mole gameplay of refilling red health bars is fun.

That’s fair, I just like the idea of a command ship more…but either way, I need to branch out from my high sec care bear life first.

Is there anything between a logi cruiser and a force aux? One seems too little and the other seems out of reach. Like, a nestor maybe? I wish there was a shield version though.

Not really.

Battleship fleets tend to pick one or the other. Logi cruisers if they’ve got more numbers, or force auxiliary if they’ve got the capital backup (i.e. a lot of dreads within jump range) in case fights escalate.

Nestors are sometimes used as armor logi in wormholes I think, but you can ask Syzygium about that. They’re too expensive to use in regular null sec warfare when a bunch of Guardians do much better with longer range.

does anyone fly drekavacs for armor reps? Thanks very much for all the replies by the way!

You can find that info if you scroll through Drekavac kills on zkillboard!

It’s occasionally being used and some fits do use armor reps. It’s been years since I flew them with my alliance when one of our FCs liked flying trig ships and wanted to experiment a bit. Other groups still seem to use them sometimes.

A TC3 is a very useful ship all over Eve. I fly mine in High Sec all the time. It’s a great PvE ship for mission running, fighting diamond rats, hauling small stuff, and just for travel in and out of High Sec and Low Sec. I’ve taken mine all the way to 0.2 and it still ratted just fine.

Its extremely versatile. You can fit it to warp while cloaked or just be straight DPS.

You can also pull off Rigs without destroying them which means you can swap rigs at any time.

It’s very skill intensive so it requires a commitment.

I have all the skills except for the T3C specific skills. I was considering Loki, Tengu or Proteus. Seems like the Tengu was all the rage 10 years ago, but now the loki seems to be the meta. am I thinking correctly?

I love my Oneiros. It’s a really nice ship.
