Do you enjoy character customization? Be honest

Yeah, guess you could say I just grab the characters and mix them with backgrounds, but there’s a bit more to it than just that.

Mainly I use gimp 2.0 to create the Eve Character Scenes. Basically I start with the characters in the customization screen, fit the appropriate apparel items for a specific scene and then set the characters in various poses and take a screenshot using the Greenscreen background option in Esc menu.

Getting the correct pose takes time due to character animations so usually a few screenshots are taken. I then import those to gimp, select the best screenshot and then clean / remove the Greenscreen background so only the character is showing, then resize and place the character where I want in the scene. The backgrounds are basically done the same, imported from various places and placed first, then characters are placed followed by any other items needed to help establish the Eve character scene.

Lastly, will use paint / air brush and other graphic manipulation processes to finish the scene. It takes anywhere from 8 to 32 hrs to create one, depending on the complexity of the scene. Course that also includes searching, cleaning and resizing various background and foreground images as well.

These Eve Character Scenes originally started out to showcase various apparel items but after a while the scenes started becoming more complex. And just to give you an idea about time relation with scene complexity, this first Eve Character Scene was created rather quickly within about 8 hrs whereas the second one took quite a bit longer to create…

Imo the problem is that it is presented to players before they have tried the game. So subconsciously players are like “why should i spend time customizing my character i don’t even know if i like the game.”

So in order to make character customization more player friendly it should show up later in the game. In the beginning the player just want to get started and feel out the game imo. But the problem is there doesn’t seem to be a good way to do this  So everyone just seems to put the CC at the beginning

It would be pretty funny if a game blurred out the player character face and or model until the player decided to do character customization. But i guess we are stuck in a loop now, no-one does that, so no-one else is going to do it. All we get are repeats of the same ways of doing things going forward. Fun
