Lets just hope you are not a policewoman irl.
In my case, I play solo and enjoy ganking and some PvE/Industry. That’s in Highsec, of course. It means multiboxing, but I’ve no problem with that.
For those who enjoy the company of other players and are focused upon shared activities, corporations provide the ideal vehicle (if you can find a good one…).
Anecdotally, my experience is that my region is less populated than it was about 6 years ago. Lustrevik is a busy mission hub but Gulfonodi is not, despite offering Security, Mining and Distribution missions (I think, all to L4). There may be other reasons for that.
What I like about EVE are the tools the game gives me so that I can weave my own narrative down the years. It may not be daredevil headline-grabbing stuff, but it does mean something to me. I guess that’s all that matters!
LOL. I don’t think I said anything about anyone asking me what I’m doing somewhere when they encounter me. Not sure how you went there from what I wrote.
I was talking in large generalities about why the player base is the size that it is and doesn’t seem to really be declining or increasing (that is the subject of this thread).
If you want to get into specifics. Say I’m in my Venture with zero guns or drones for protection. You encounter me in your whatever with like 6 or more guns and blast me out of space. I’ll be a bit annoyed, but I have at least 3 other ventures outfitted the same in storage, so no big deal. With the current number of players and the hugeness of space, I can make a living with my little venture and afford to replace it when it is occasionally destroyed. Now if that happened every time I went out, and this is really the only thing in the game I liked to do, well I’d quit. So that is an example of something that makes the player count go down. That isn’t the case though with the current player count, as there just aren’t that many people out there ganking ventures. See what I’m saying now?
Oh, it’s one of those ’ I never said…’ threads.
I blasted one only yesterday…solo kill. Another criminal disposed of. And flying a 22m ISK Venture, probably one of the most expensive ever zapped.
Come on now…
You don’t seem to understand how Eve works. PvP players such as myself, and also gankers and others, don’t care if you are ‘doing PvE or doing PvP’. You get locked and shot at all the same. Nobody’s going to ask ’ Excuse me, my good sir, are you doing PvE in which case I won’t shoot you '. Nobody has the time or inclination for that. When I hunt suspects I really don’t care what they are doing…they are suspect and need shooting.
Ya, I have yet to participate in any PvP, either voluntary or involuntary in EVE. So what exactly would I be suspect of? Existing in space?
Ventures can be hard to catch, if the pilot is paying attention and fitted for flight rather than fight. If you get caught, you messed up somewhere.
Forum followers will know I’ve a story to tell about this. A retriever pilot in an asteroid belt. I ganked him. He later came out in exactly the same boat with exactly the same fit, so I did it again.
I’ve no idea whether the penny eventually dropped for him, but he disappeared from that system and I never encountered him again. Unless he alt-ed me…
You can find a more expensively fitted one ( I don’t mean cargo, just fittings ) ? The average T2 Venture is about 4m ISK. You can build a gaussian laser one for just 400K ISK. 22m is pretty rare.
I mean, you can find 900m ISK Venture kills, but most of that is cargo and not fittings.
You want to make a bet out of it?
I can simply look at the Venture stats. September…8150 Ventures lost…73.36bn. That works out at an average of 9m per Venture lost. I rest the case for the defence.
Look, do you want to bet ISK that you are right? Or do you want to logically concede I know more about ganking than you, and maybe I might be right?
Ya, I’m following the rule, “don’t fly what you can’t lose”. I’m out in a tech 1 venture. Thanks to a friend that gave me the blueprints for it, each one is costing me around 1 M. I can pay for each in about 1 run. Now the BPOs are only good to make about 100, so I don’t have an unlimited supply of them. It does have something to increase the warp core from 2 to I think 4, so not all that easy to lock onto me. Never tested it in an actual encounter, so will be interesting to see what happens.

Moving the goalposts

a 22m ISK Venture, probably one of the most expensive ever zapped.
you clearly meant total value of which
Blows your claim out the window
That one was carrying 3bn in PLEX. The actual ship and fittings was just 2m ISK.
So here’s the question, how much ISK will Gloria pay me to link a real nice Venture or two? Can I do it? Who believes me, and who doubts me?
Wanna bet?

That one was carrying 3bn in PLEX. The actual ship and fittings was just 2m ISK.
LOL. I am a noob, but I do know only a noob would carry PLEX. That is plain dumb and I suspect very rare.

but I do know only a noob would carry PLEX
Don’t understimate the dumbness of a noob, most llkely though the alt of a vet that should know better.
See…I never said ‘the’ most expensive. I said ‘one of’ the most expensive. Which allows me a wide degree of latitude
