Doctor Who event

My initial reaction also, but after a moments reflection I want to see what they do.

Trigs are a tad timey-whymie and anything that comes out of Derelik is suspect [see what I did there?]

I’m confident that CCP Delegate Zero has something astonishing up his sleeve.

Here we go: Hoboleaks
As you could expect - new cerebral accelerators, whole new set of AIR boosters to grab, new vanity items, new SKINs series (my guess some will be rewards for grind, some will end in New Eden Store). Most likely event sites will require combat + hacking abilities. Expect absurd SOE ships market price spike.

the epitomy of cringe is CCP with this Doctor Who ■■■■ - there isn’t a toilet big enough to flush the Korean theme park cash grab now - not sure how many lows can be endured, but CCP seem adept at making sure they keep on coming.

seriously considering unsubbing again…

I’m actually quite a fan of Dr Who, I grew up watching it with my dad and, once it came back (as an FYI for those who don’t know, it was cancelled in the late 80’s and didn’t come back until 2005) I watched it with my nephew.

As soon as I saw the EVE/Dr Who post though I kind of internally cringed as the two things don’t feel like a comfortable fit.

I can (kind of) get the idea that it might bring some people into EVE through the fandom route (although that feels like an incredibly cynical marketing strategy) but, once the event is over will the hardcore Who fans hang around with the complete absence of Who content? Probably not. They’ll do what so many other new players do once they encounter EVE but just with a much higher probability because the one thing that attracted them to the game was removed after a couple of weeks.

There’s so many things that need sorting and there’s such a rich lore that can be tapped into and expanded before ever needing to do such a cynical cash-grab.

I might check out some of this content out of interest as its something new and I’m a Dr Who fan but I can’t see myself getting swept up in it. One of the things I love with sci-fi is getting absorbed in the universe. I really like the EVE universe but this has just punched a hole in the immersion while also feeling like an out of place and unnecessary idea considering how rich EVE is already.

of al lthe different kinds of crossovers, concerning space theme’s, this is what you thought the best idea would be?
seriously?

there isn’t even space ships in doctor who, there are ideas of them, but never once actually used

you guys are morons and don’t know a damned thing about your playerbase

Terribly sorry to see you go chap. But um, could I have that stuff before you do?

LOL. Lets not pretend lore has a big dent in your day to day in EVE. Lets not front like you even read half the stuff said in missions and elsewhere.

EVE is one of the least immersive MMOs imo. Its the relationships and player interactions which make it immersive, not the lore.

You looking in a mirror or. There are a billion spaceships in Dr Who ROFL.

That is right. Even the dalek saucers are spaceships. The ones that are seen in trailer looks like those from the series.

Yep daleks have ships. Practically every alien race they’ve encountered have them.

I am, in fact, a giant Dr Who nerd so maybe that’s why I don’t have such a problem with this LOL.

That’s actually quite a big assumption you’re making about how I enjoy the game. I do actually get into that stuff. I loved the Trig invasion for just that reason and am very fond of the extensive lore. I’ve spent a lot of time reading through a lot of it. Don’t assume that because it’s not something that matters to you other people don’t enjoy it. Its as much a part of the sandbox as any other aspect and therefore just as valid.

I am very much a lore nerd for all the games I play, but lets not front like it impacts your day to day EVE life.

I mean unless you’re actually RPing in game. Which you aren’t.

I just wanted to share a reflection having read several comments of “Is this an April Fools joke posted by someone whose PC showed the 01/04 instead of 04/01?” that I think we can perfectly map the 5 stages of Grief/Loss to this event announcement:

Denial - “It must be a date error, it can’t be real.”
Anger - [Thread locked for ranting - ISD]
Bargaining - “Please god let it be a date error.”
Depression - Many examples in this thread and others.
Acceptance - “I have unsubscribed”

It doesn’t effect my doing what I do as in ratting, mining, industry, explo whatever. But it does feel a bit cheap and takes something out of the immersion of New Eden for me. The immersion when I log in is actually quite important to me and this does make the universe feel a little less unique, to me. You can disagree and argue until the cows come home but it is a fact, for me, that this does break the immersion I feel. Especially as it is such a blatant cash grab. You are free to think what you want but you can’t tell me what to think or how to feel in my experience EVE.

Is this an out of season April fool joke?

Same… Even before the BBC totally destroyed Dr.Who this would have looked bad, but now of all time? Wtf were they thinking?

How much dps will the Tardis have? Or will it be a logi ship? Asking for a friend… Good grief CCP hit rock bottom with this event!
