omg OK never mind. My mistake.
What did you think he was talking about?
I really like your Pilots name
Could we become friends?
… get it? Fishing for Friendships!
What do you use for bait?
I am in way over my head but I would use a Venture!
@Iceacid_Frostpacker How big is your orca?
(Orca) is Maggie and she is beefy?
We gone full circle now? Back to beefy! Or quite chewy?
Venture is not “juicy” enough. Only loosers blow up Ventures anyway. May I suggest a battlecruiser with a nice Skin and 100mil worth of BPs in cargo?
What if this particular Venture in question contained a hull full of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
Well, in that case it would definitely be bait for me!
And now I have to go out to the store to get some because of you and I have to hurry because it closes in an hour! Why O why did you have to mention cinnamon?
@Ivanka_Omanid
I’m sure there’s over-fishing sometimes in some constellations but I doubt it affects the whole of New Eden. 20-30K players every day isn’t so poor that capsuleers can’t find anyone to blow up.
Maybe there are less and less Whales and that doesn’t surprise me. There have been many websites describing what happens to Whales in EVE and these forum are full of cautionary tales aimed at would-be Whales.
Maybe the new players are now more informed about the dangers that await Whales and Credit-Card warriors, maybe the new players are a little more savvy about what awaits them and are more warry and alert than their counterparts from a few years ago.
And maybe there isn’t an over-fishing problem at all. Maybe that guy in the video you watched just felt like a few minutes of complaining or was trying to express a deeper intangible feeling associated with player count and retention.
Can you post the link of the episode in question? I’m curious to see it and gauge what that guy was trying to say exactly and what response he got from the person he was talking to.
Take care o7
Thank you very insightful and thoughtful response.
I suppose that is another posibility, that the ecosystem has evolved and the whales wise up and “shrink” to survive (like the dinasour). Also with scarcity there is abundant food anymore.
This is the video in question
Thank you so much!
I think one problem in EVE that can cause overfishing is Abyssals.
People who want to avoid being in the fishing grounds can run their PvE in instanced areas from high sec systems, safe from all the fishing that may happen elsewhere.
Without Abyssals, if people want to do PvE they have to be in space. With Abyssals, those people can avoid being in space. For that reason, Abyssals and instanced PvE is bad for the fishing equilibrium in EVE.
Sure, the Abyssal trace those players leave behind is an opportunity for fishing. But if that trace can be created in high sec just as easily as in other parts of space, and if the player coming out of that trace requires a suicide gank to be killed in high sec, this doesn’t help fishing elsewhere in the game.
My suggestion:
- Higher tier Abyssal sites turn players suspect.
With that simple change, it wouldn’t be better to run those sites in high sec than it would be to run them elsewhere in the universe. And it wouldn’t require a suicide gank to kill the instanced PvE ship either.
why not just remove the instanced stuff ?
At this point, removing the instanced stuff would be a waste of the development time that went into creating those Abyssals.
Also, Abyssal sites are pretty interesting as a more complex form of PvE with higher risks that you cannot just throw more or bigger ships at to trivialise it. If I get some more suited skills I still intend to try it out.
Abyssal sites aren’t bad for the game. I just think the Abyssal sites should be less disconnected from the rest of the universe.
And making people suspect who come out of those instances is a step in the right direction, because right now there’s not a lot stopping players from all doing their abyssal sites in Jita. When those players exit their trace as a suspect, the choice to run those sites in high sec is no more tempting than running those sites elsewhere in the universe.
I am not that sure as I believe it takes players out of the sandbox. And being able to start these things from highsec is even worse.
I don’t say those are not fun.
But yeah I look at them from the piranha swarm point of view. We need lots of fish to stay healthy. and many of us died already.
At least by flagging T4+ abyssal runners as suspect you put them back into the sandbox as prey in a different way that’s open to everyone, and easily spotted via local.
I agree that instancing high-value PVP was a big mistake, but it’s unlikely for CCP to remove it now.
