Drifter Crisis: Race for the Hives - Results & Data

Not being able to participate solo made it a non-starter for me.

Lots of people went solo, Deepflow Rift, Observatory Infiltration and Field Rescue can all be done with one character.

None of these sites are mentioned anywhere tangible as part of the event. I can’t find info about them in the Opportunities window or the Agency.

Can’t say I had this problem, the Agency and the flag icon on the main UI tell you what sites you should run.

It says ‘fleet’ for all activities, none are described as solo content

Do you see “solo” anywhere in this screenshot? The info are also completely gone from the Agency as I cannot find anything about that in the Agency. Which is particularly strange because the Crisis systems still exist in the Opportunities.

That’s true but ‘fleet’ doesn’t place restrictions on the number of people, you can just form a fleet by yourself.

The Opportunities window also explicitly says that all this content is meant for 3-5 (10 for the final sites) people.

If only there were some way to find other people in this MMO that are actively doing the same content as you, maybe CCP should add some sort of text based chat system to the game so players can communicate with each other and find other people with a similar mindset to play together

And it is, since these sites are essentially extensions of Homefront Operations, what they mean is that the ISK payout is maximised when the site is run by a 3-5 character fleet, depending on the site. If the site is run by a lower number of characters, the payout is much lower. It tells you as much in the patch notes:

  • Crisis: Observatory Infiltration — Scan down this site to retrieve valuable relics from the remains of an emergent Jovian Observatory. Bring up to 2 other capsules to maximize rewards, but be wary of any traps the Drifters may have left behind! T1 frigates, destroyers, and standard T1 cruisers are permitted to enter.

This doesn’t mean you can’t run the sites by yourself if you so wish, only that you need to form a fleet to get credit. Much like frigate abyss, it’s more of a guideline.

I don’t have time for this stuff. I wanted to do that with some guys from my corp, but we couldn’t agree on a faction to support, and ultimately they didn’t have much time anyway. Just because I play an MMO does not mean I HAVE TO play with other people.
This “you HAVE TO play with others” was bad enough during the Trigshits Invasion where you also could barely do anything on your own. This entire "you HAVE TO fleet up stuff is just annoying. Instead of allowing it to happen organically and give all people and ways to play a chance, CCP forces it upon the players and coerces them to do it. That was at least on good thing in the Invasions. I could start a site on my own and then team up with a fleet when one eventually arrived or formed. At least back then, you could use Marauders and solo sites to some extent, but CCP prevented this for this event entirely.

But this shoehorned crap? Unclear information, hardly any info anywhere, nothing in the Agency, convoluted mechanics and menus. Same old from back then and back then burnt me hard for “fleet PVE content”.

Sure, but being upset that content in a multiplayer game doesn’t really work great for solo players is something you kind of forfeit the right to be upset about when you’re not playing the game as actually designed

There is lots of solo content in the game, but its not the focus and the game is just better when played with friends

to be upset about when you’re not playing the game as actually designed

Then CCP should stop talking about how they support all kinds of gameplay styles and explicitly say they only want group play. That would be honest at least.

Besides: As I said, I am not against fleet play entirely. I am only against the way they force it on the game now. For all the horrible experiences with Trigshits Invasions, the way fleet play and solo play could interact with each other and complement each other was way better than this.

They do support all sorts of play styles though, but nowhere did they ever say that ALL content will support ALL play styles

There are a number of things you can do entirely fine solo, but fleet stuff just ain’t it and this game is primarily an MMO

and all edencom should have their eyes unable to have tears so that they could stop have crocodile tears evrytime they see triglavian winning, like when they cry and got ahbazon

What Crisis?

I saw some Deeprift results while exploring, ignored them and was otherwise unaware of the Drifter “crisis”.

Where are the Drifter Incursions?
When are they going to make some trade routes lawless?
Why aren’t they shooting some structures, particularly targeting ones with lots of clones in them?
Chasing players out of their missions and nuking the rats there?

Seriously, until the patch notes today, I was barely aware there was an event going on.

Results?

  1. Haven’t seen any drifter around, people just were doing their usual business
  2. Found and completed few Rifts. Solo. It was boring. Sit there for 18 minutes and activate Tractor beam every other second. Then collect another can. Then open it and get some stuff you can sell for like 5-10 million per site… Was about to ask around and then checked the description. It looks like these sites will work when you have a fleet of 3-5 in it. Else it just mining when you need to manually activate laser each time. In addition never got any visit into the site, being in low-sec. Looks like players actively ignore these.

You guys let us punch moons in the face with frickin “lazors”. This seems easy by comparison.

This has to be one of the most disorganized, dysfunctional and disincentivizing events yet.
