Eve Bots - are they a bad thing, is CCP complicit in their use?

Whoa. This is a decidely uncool and bogus turn of events.

When Team Security said they were going to address the bot issue this year, I had no idea they meant they were going to clamp down on those trying to fight the problem! Eliminate the complaining, eliminate the problem?

CCP? They are on the side of botters I think. Just look at the recent additions to the game. NPCs, NPCs everywhere, botting in daylight all their silicon lifes. :disappointed:

I was hoping that the FOBs and their accompanying frigates/cruisers would be used as a foil for bot/afk mining. Perhaps with refinement, I had hopes they could be utalized to fight the Gila/RS bots somehow. Alas, like much of EVE recently, I apparently find that my hopes and wishes are beyond the capabilites of CCP Devs. Well, I might as well mosey over to my lifeboat station on the EVE ship and get ready to board and castoff; the water appears to be coming over railing.

This is indeed an interesting turn of events.

Does CCP have anything to add or comment?

Reading this thread,I did want the “good” guys to prevail.

Interesting.

I dropped corp and reformed another and decided to continue the purge. I staged at another station and system identified (that I had purposely not listed here) to see if I was giving any free intel away.

Hirtamon VIII - Moon 5 - Expert Housing Warehouse

I watched around 9-10 haulers with sequential names running courier missions and thought it time to take one out.

Before my criminal timer had expired, my killright was made public. Someone was at least online or pinged with the loss! Within about 10 minutes all of the haulers disappeared.

I moved my eyes to Airkio to see how the farm there was going and was prepared to move operations for the evening. Lo and behold, no botting farm running now! So, is this the same farmer? Or are there farmers who are in contact with each other?

Curious…

edit.
If I can shut down two farms with one gank I consider it a small victory for today.
Although I know that they will likely just move or restart. I will be watching.

Botter was there to supervise. They look scared and you made them watch what is going on, log in and care. No AFK for them, now only to convince CCP they need to ban them, they are still cheaters.

Its a win in my book.

Yep, its pretty clear that CCP and people like Ramona dont care if the game is wrecked by bots.

outside of docked bots I think there is a great opportunity for a PvP niche to fill on and let nature take its course. I for one have just added bots to our list of criminals in the CFEL mandate to “extend the hand of Concord”, to not only include negative sec status, active timers or kill rights, but bots as well. I haven’t yet settled on a solid criteria to propose to our group, however, to avoid inadvertently using force against a real player. I do know at least one person (a one man Corp of many multiboxed) that makes it his mandate to irradiate bots and has done pretty well in his endeavours. Any suggestions as to how to apply criteria to sort bot from humanned would be appreciated, right now all I can think to do is “start conversation”, send them a message, again informing them to accept the conversation, and explain why. No answer for a long while and I become a missile delivery specialist.

It really is funny & sad to see pods running missions.
Gotta work on my application though, I missed the Viator again

Got a few before the farm shut down. Another minor acheivement I suppose.

Time to do some scouting in other regions…

edit.
Stopped the Viator with a single tritanium

Actually CODE does not hate bots, they pretend to hate bots.

Noooo, it can’t end here. We need further updates on this epic bot ganking story.

The crusade is still going, a little slow due to the holiday and my RL commitments. But we did manage to get some more bot kills and disrupt a few operations.

First up was Airkio II - Sukuuvestaa Corporation Factory, and a group that was previously identified. I had never acted against them, and in a .9 system required that we had fixed our security status first. We destroyed 4 Badgers running bot scripts. These are cheap T1 fits, but hey we aren’t doing this for KB green…

Remember that Viator bot? Well he obviously doesn’t check his notifications because we wardecced his corp and my associate took the opportunity to remove his ship the classic way:
https://zkillboard.com/kill/66931641/

This prompted some response later that day! We had one very cheesed off pilot send me a mail titled “Anna”, with the simple words “where is she”. Tsk-tsk…

Went ahead and killed a few more bots back in Umokka, before another pilot decided to crash the party with his seboed passive-targeting-jamming Falcon. Are you the bot farmer, dude? Hope you are reading this thread because you will be included as suspects in my submissions…

And so it continues…

Simply by allowing an autopilot feature, we allow bots. While I personally think this sucks having bots running on scripts, I also had an autopilot (Raytheon ST1000+ that I named HaL and even made a raincoat for and painted a face on) on my sailboat that I lived and sailed on for 5 years. Without my trusty HaL, I could never have sailed solo. HaL was rigged up into an early version of a seatalk network and communicated with a Windex detecting true and apparent wind directions, an xband radar unit, a chart plotter and a sonar unit. The autopilot would sound an alarm based on parameters I gave it, and after a set amount time I specified, would automatically tack or jibe by boat, or change course and reset a course made good accordingly. It worked flawlessly until a wire came off in storm and I didn’t know. The next day, I was coming to land and ran hard aground on rocks, because I didn’t do my due diligence and check the system religiously for faults. We could factor something into the game where random errors or malfunctions that can’t be scripted out will require human input at random intervals… Just like real life reliability issues. Course drift too, where if you autopilot too long, or particle energy storms or something can disrupt auto navigation landing you somewhere you didn’t intend… we could have a whole new part of the game avoiding storms that throw us off course or put our sensors haywire. There are many ways to add fairness back into the bot aspect without completely unbotting the bot. I personally love bots because I suck at PvP, and bots are nice and easy kills!

Without going into detail, autopilot is not an aspect of bots.

Autopiloters are lazy/afk players, but overwhelmingly, not bots.
