Er.. I just told you why? So I can see what loss (and the surely amusing sequence of events preceding it) has caused you to be so completely Normal about gatecamps.
I would describe gatecamps as something akin to slightly inclement weather on my morning drive to work, but somehow you feel oppressed by them in a way that’s starting to look like Laura Loomer cosplay, and I just want to know what scale of blunder lead to that.
AI isn’t sure how to respond to your request…
Not true. The reward is the safe travel for your group. You control the gate, you ensure your traffic goes through unharmed.
What makes you think you or your group have some “godgiven” right to travel there without ensuring the safety of the route?
And some players enjoy wrecking other players plans in a game. If you are successful with it, thats called ‘winning’.
Are you some kind of expert in operating successful online gaming business? If so, charge money for your service!
And they all suck. Thats why we are here.
They invented teleporter technology by now? I missed that memo…
To create a noticable benefit of maneuvering manually and add a downside to automated input.
If you don’t understand even these basics, how shall we take you serious?
Omni-directional insta-travel isn’t a “major change”, it’s a totally different game. If you want to basically create a totally different game, why not just build and release it yourself? You seem to be confident that your solution is far superior, that means you should have huge success on the market. Go for it, I wish you the best of luck!
Oh really?
Oh no! What will those poor goons do?
Is there nothing this small null sec group struggling for existence can do to stop the evil strong gatecampers from blocking their goon miners from travelling to their asteroids?
But seriously, are you a goon member complaining that hostiles sometimes camp your space?
After giving it some thought, I don’t see much difference between traveling in the game today as I did 4 or 5 years ago. I took up living inside J space ( wormholes ) and I was able to bypass a lot of long range hops between systems. Many people still live inside wormholes and you can do this with a corp or on your own. There are many who attempt to predict wormhole exits, but I found there are always 2 or 3 that lead you to low sec, high sec, or null from any wormhole. You just wait until the exit is where you want it to be.
Wormholes are free to explore and residing inside is too easy. Since no one can see you ( unless you chat ) you can remain parked, far from any entrance, at a safe point. I did a fair amount of mining inside wormholes and trips outside was the tricky part. Keeping one or both alts on your account inside with probes assured you return. It got boring living in a void, so I stopped, and hooked back up with friends in normal space.
In all reality, no one likes to jump 30 hops to get from point A to point B. However without it, the game becomes less real to us and very thin. I never expect anything truthful about space travel in a science fiction game and it would be impossible to do all this travel without magic jump gates, warp speed, and wormholes. Some games allow “map travel” or “fast travel”, where you visit a place to get allowed instant access, and I don’t want that either.
I have always said, there could be more to do while you wait to travel from point A to point B. I would prefer to walk about the ship solving problems with the crew. Get a page that the ship’s doctor has been drinking again and needs to be talked out of doing surgery or the ships engineering need help with the engines. That is not how this game works, but it would be nice for someone to create that game instead of all the click, jump, click, jump.

Know why I believe I am correct?
On a forum, when someone says something incorrect, everyone chimes in to explain the error.
Responses here? Attack the person. Maybe they will go away. In this instance, highly unlikely but I have to recognize the effort.
Amusing. So close to the truth, yet still in denial.
Yes. My response to gate camps is completely normal for Eve Online. They irritate me enough to complain on the Eve Online feedback forum. How many voiced this complaint before me? How many of them are still playing this game?
Thanks for helping.
Now I don’t have to type that out. There is nothing entertaining about making 30 jumps. Just irritation with another Eve Online game mechanic. Even worse when I do not arrive at my destination and must redo the travel.
Thinking of fun solutions to the travel problem like taking shortcuts through filaments or wormholes, or paying other players to logistics for you or setting up a base closer to the content would all make no sense if travel in EVE was instantaneous, risk-free and easy.
It appears you want to change the game to easy mode, while many of us instead like a challenge and all the interesting gameplay that follows from that challenge.
Sadly this is no single player game like Skyrim where one player can play without instant travel while the other can choose to instant travel anywhere, but is an MMO we all play and compete in. So we play with one set of rules and want to keep playing this game, not some watered down game without challenge.
Is there the option to save routes in Eve?
Another misrepresentation from Gerard.
No. I am asking for less monotony. As for challenge and interesting gameplay, why not adjust the location and conditions of PVP so that both sides find it equally entertaining. Faction warfare complexes perhaps?
Faction warfare complexes already exist.
If you want people to accurately know what it is you are asking, stop beating around the bush.
You are just complaining and trying to start discussions clearly with some kind of agenda, but refuse to clearly say what it is you want. And then you blame people for ‘misinterpretation’ you caused by your own behaviour. ![]()
This is not how you constructively get or discuss new ideas.
Why do you have to fly there in the first place if you can’t handle it? Stick to Highsec and the problem is solved for you?
Also you can use many ingame and outgame intel tools to avoid gatecamps, as well as find another route or time.
And alternative traveling is already implemented in various ways. You can use one of the various ships with jumpdrives…even the almost invisible blackops system…or you can go around any gatecamp by scanning yourself to WH-Space and back again.
Or use an extraction filament and go to pochven and back to known space again with another filament.
You can also try to fit for interdiction nullification and try to break through while using the known strategies to avoid smartbombs. Well i guess maybe not known to you - it involves not directly flying from gate to gate but to gather intel first by using the D-Scan from appropriate positions.
Options are there, use them. Right now it sounds as if you want the easy way and travel everywhere as if it was Highsec, however it is not Highsec. Gatecamps are an emergent property of those space environments.
EDIT: there are just so many options that i had to edit my post several times. I might have forgotten some - i left out what is seemingly out of scope for you like Titan bridges and Ansiblexes.
Not really!
Not very many, as these things go - it was almost refreshing to see a thread about it instead of the usual topics. It’s not so much that nobody has ever had a complaint about it before, but “gate camps” are a pretty minor adversity in Eve and the average player tends to outgrow struggling with them before it develops into a defining problem for them personally.
Who knows? You certainly don’t.
So… don’t make 30 jumps then? Exercise a little personal agency and do something you enjoy instead, the game is not forcing you to make 30 jumps.
That is called a learning opportunity and you should embrace it.
I’m too late to comment. Sad. ![]()
Does this person have any credibility remaining?
I believe this is clearly stated.
Still looking for feedback from other players. Still telling @Gerard_Amatin that he cannot control this conversation.
Why does this character think they can tell other players how to enjoy Eve Online, a Fenris Creations online video game.
No. Learning opportunities must include the option to improve next time. Being forced to not enjoy game content elsewhere oppresses players instead of teaching them.
Er… but you plainly don’t enjoy Eve Online? You’re only ever observed whining about how you do not enjoy it, in fact. Kind of weird to take umbrage to being told to stop doing things you don’t enjoy. Perhaps the whining is your favorite part?
That’s a thing you can do, though. General “you” of course, not you, specifically. Like I said, most people outgrow dying in gatecamps pretty quickly. You’ve got up to 30 jumps to figure out how you could have avoided death, surely you can come up with something! I believe in you!
You don’t even need to get good, you just need to get average.
