EVE Launcher for Linux

Be sure to have Nine patched wine and mesa drivers and run in DX9 mode like Whitehound recommendation.
If that kind of old card do have Gallium Nine support, of course.

@Whitehound I think he is already running in DX9 mode as his hardware don’t support the OpenGL version required for D3D11_2_OpenGL

Did you reply to the wrong post ? I’m working OK.

I’m able to run the launcher from the terminal, but it doesn’t really do anything…
user@computer:~/evelauncher$ ./evelauncher.sh
I can see the process running… then it goes away…
*Edit:
I was able to get past that by redoing everything and following this thread but I’m stuck on this:
The client launches but freezes right after. This is what my error is:

user@computer:~/evelauncher$ ./evelauncher.sh

Either launch the game from Steam, or put the file steam_appid.txt containing the correct appID in your game folder.

Have a look at this post Help Installing EVE on Ubuntu 18.04.

But first you must install the non-free graphics-driver from nvidia, the nouveau driver doesn’t work with wine and eve online.

That’s already done. Thanks for the link Gharim, I’ll go check that thread.

Hmm, something is wrong with your driver setup. It should say “1 proprietary driver are in use” but it says “No proprietary drivers are in use”. Can you check with nvidia-settings which driver you have running?

For those who have issues:

I used the steam proton port to set it up:

See this post:

Eve Online via Steam

Good day,
I have installed Linux Mint Debian Edition 3. I am unable to get Eve to launch. I have the launcher working and my accounts have been added. When I click Play button I get the Starting Client and then it disappears. I know I have seen this issue before but I am unable to resolve it with all the app’s listed here in the Forums. Any thoughts on this please?

Thank you
Dropzone

You should start the launcher in a shell with WINEDEBUG enabled and watch what it says when you start the clients.

Sounds like missing graphic drivers for i386.

Confirm sounds like missing i386 bits, missing corefonts, or winecfg not set to XP.

May be it will be helpful for someone:

I am having issues with qt as noted in the Troubleshooting section. However, I can’t seem to get past that.
ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

The launcher ran and patched/installed the client. The authentication (adding accounts) works. Then when I click the play button for an account, nothing happens.

So after spending a lot of time off Eve I decided I wanted to get back into game today, yes I know that following the suggested ways to patch and install is the generally best approach but after getting to launcher to do its thing and download the updates and this was ofc after downloading Eve for the 2nd or 3rd time in about 2 years and the launcher showing up, then disappearing without asking for accounts or anything I am a little bit concerned that maybe the forums are not exactly up to date on the latest build or I am doing it wrong. Oh and I did attempt to get the correct stuff before I launched the launcher but I am left wondering if I missed a step? Any pointers I am missing? I am on the latest Mint version

You should find pointers in the log output.

I’m assuming that you’ve tried it with the Linux-native launcher. You can also try to only go with the Windows version of it all. It should require the least amount of effort to get EVE running. See here:

The launcher ran and patched/installed the client. The authentication (adding accounts) works. Then when I click the play button for an account, nothing happens. Can someone help me?

Which wine version do you have installed? Please don’t use the wine version which comes with the launcher because she is totally outdated and no more usable. It seems, that wine is hanging somewhere. Have a look at UniWiki how to setup the linux launcher.

Or maybe you want to try my latest install script, which make all the nasty things like downloading, creating directories and launcher, setting up wine for eve and so on.

Latest Install Script

I cannot test it for myself because my pc are gone for some weeks (cpu and/or mb broken) and i have atm only my ten years old rig working, which cannot launch eve anymore (only a single-core cpu and eve needs at minimum double-core).

Finally I started game, but after starting game in 10 sec I got this error. Who knows what does it mean?

If your installed wine version are older than 3.20 then you must with winecfg the used Windows Version set to “Windows XP”, default setting are “Windows 7”. Older wine versions have this xaudio2_7 bug which was fixed with version 3.20. When you use winecfg don’t forget the variable WINEPREFIX so that the right wine prefix are used. Have a look at Some Explanations. In your case should the used command be

env WINEPREFIX=~/.eve/wineenv winecfg

to set the right Windows Version for EVE Online.

I changed it to Windows XP and it didn’t work, I have the same error
