AI would be excellent for bespoke, personalised missions. So a person would do a mission that was tailored just for them. It would have to be adaptive AI…as other players might intervene at any point.
One could even apply it to PvP…and special environments generated for duels, wars, etc.

The issue is making it power scale appropriately. I’ve run a couple D&D campaigns with a chatbot DM, and though it’s generally surprisingly good at putting together a coherent story as long as you tell it to write and plan the campaign out entirely beforehand so it doesn’t have to improvise something together in each reply, it really struggles with challenge ratings. One fight can end in a single turn because it sends ten CR1/8th rats against your level 7 wizard, and the next time it might decide throwing two vampires at you would be appropriate. A dynamic missions system in EVE would need to have a very good system for generating encounters, both missions with ten sensor dampening battleships or ten plain DPS-sponge battleships are failures, one is too frustrating, the other is just sitting around waiting.
