EVE Online and AI Research

No surprise that Deepmind is researching AI capacity in Eve Online. The need to keep the Deepmind exposure within a closed sandbox is obvious but I can’t help but wonder if there is a larger research opportunity in future where AI can interact with us Capsuleers in game freely…perhaps we can gain insight on whether such AI’s dominate or…capsuleers collaborate. AI reaction to patch day? Interesting possibilities.

Actual Freelance jobs. Not the bait/switch scams and indentured slavery…

there is going to be alot more botting and quite possibly ganking in the forseeable future

STAY IN EXORDIUM IF YOU WANT TO LIVE ROOKIES!!!

pochven and other wormhole space is going to be a nightmare…

I think we’re a long way before even thinking about integrating AI into EVE.

Capsuleers will always dominate. AI has no feelings, no sentiments, no fear, no joy. None of the things that motivate humans. You wont get an AI version of Sun Tzu…because wisdom requires knowing what motivates or de-motivates the enemy. And an AI psychopath ( effectively ) is simply not going to know the crazy way humans actually respond.

AI would be great for a Jovian invasion.

Actually I think this could be coded within types of responses. Humans have an innate approach/repulsion hardwired into our brain systems. Given such basic human level responses can be coded and sourced into AI quite quickly. Think does a human approach/runaway from scenario A, B, C, etc. Given some basic poker level % betting math you can pretty much sort out strategies in Eve quite simply and basically.

In the end the math will always win on a long term win/lose % criteria.

Why not pick something, like animate the mission agents. Two tiers of missioning; current for the blitzers, and a second (opt in of course), where the agent reacts to the character’s history.

Same payouts, same missions, etc.

See how the player reacts.

My first thought was we’re helping Skynet now, oh goody. No way that could go wrong

I wouldnt bet any isk on that. AI is moving at a very accelerated rate through our little world and pretty much everything has it implemented in one form or another. Saving time is the biggest factor and its been a huge help to many people in the fields of it being the biggest advantage…gaming especially.

This may be a bad example, but for anyone here that played New World…you can thank AI for that being sunsetted in Jan27. It was lightning fast. One minute the game releases a new expansion and doing better than it ever had…then the next minute we are getting an announcement that its being shut down.

Thats off the subject of implementation…but just an example of how fast some things can progress.

True. I think with EVE we’re years away though… Not entirely sure how AI killed it? Amazon dumping everything into AI you mean? The 14,000 layoffs certainly didn’t help… In fairness, the cancellation was announced back in October of 2025…

About a year ago, CCP had a job listing for an AI consultant.

Consultants… if there’s no money to be made in solving the problem - there’s money to be made in prolonging it…

Yes. I guess they see something we dont?..or maybe something we are already aware of. You know Amazon…they always seem to jump head first into a lot of things they dont know much about…and certainly dont mind the money they spend doing it.

I obviously exaggerated. My point was the quickness that it happened. They also didnt announce when the closure was going to happen until January this year. They gave players another year to mourn the loss.

I think Drifters would fit more being directed by A.I., and players on the side of Jovians, if players win with A.I. then we get Jovian themed expansion and jove space would be opened to players. If players lose, Drifters will take over Jove space and settle there, launching parties attacking the rest of space sporadically.

Now that I’m retired I can confess that I developed looking busy in the IT industry to a fine art. But with all the redundancies I had no choice. The people who were not on a working project were invariably the ones who got made redundant. And its only gotten worse with AI…which doesn’t take holidays, doesn’t get sick, and can’t ( yet ) sit there and ‘look busy’ when the project actually ended a month ago.

Agreed. This is what i mentioned in my other post as well. Its the time.

Its the huge amount of time it saves. I think we will see AI fully ( or partially ) implemented a lot sooner than most may think. Its developmental speed is very alarming.

That only means more people in EVE playing because they dont have a job! But who will pay for PLEX then?

I know, tax A.I. and give money to the people so they can play!

Make A.I. and robots do everything for you, like slaves were doing that for romans in ancient times. Governments need to implement regulations globally when its time!

A.I. and robots need to be our future slaves. Technosphere where humans only reap the fruits of the work of machines.

CCP will definitely not manage to draw any positive aspects out of a system that is inherently designed to be a negative feature slope. The current trajectory of CCP’s dev quality and game qualit proves that beyond any doubt.

Case in point: They cannot even write properly.
