Not that Eve online players where not already studied, analyzed, and sold to 3rd party companies but this is just going to far for me.
Now we get to be under the fine tooth come of an AI platform and robot.
I’ve played Eve online off and on since 2006. It’s my one place to relax and unwind after a long day at the office or driving in traffic.
I realize that nobody can escape AI. It’s everywhere. In my car studying me, On my social media tracking my life. On my roads watching where I go and drive to be stored forever in a massive database somewhere for god knows what reasons. In my advertisements constantly forced down my gullet from TV, Radio, You tube and other social media outlets. On my phone making sure to report when I go to the bathroom. And now.. the one small place I felt like I could sorta get away from it. Eve online. Not only that Google Deep mind having ties to the military industrial complex that is in the business of killing people for profit. I’m not excited about playing a game without being paid to train an AI.
Where is my reward other then the game I love keeps going? Maybe for the worst? Google does have a habit of killing a lot of projects soon after obtaining them or so I’ve heard.
I didn’t have my actions in eve online being a part of Skynet on my bingo card today… but I guess I should have. Block alliances should be outraged at the invasion of privacy that is coming for them in the very near future.
I might fly in a google universe. Nobody cares I know. And no you can’t have my stuff. But thats the end of my favorite game of all time or the beginning of a new AI driven relationship. RIP all my accounts and no I won’t be giving any more money to this company. Or maybe the world is in such a late state it really doesn’t matter anymore and I will.
Good bye/Cheers?
I had two options edit or remove completely this thread but some of the comments where worth keeping it open.
There’s a “theory” people like Aldous Huxley had inside info and were allowed to publish because the elites not only do not care, but also giving a smooth introduction makes it more palatable.
Just like Kubrick with Eyes Wide Shut…
Or, these guys are simply geniuses. In 1984 case, if you dare to believe, the problem was the plan was supposed to be implemented way earlier, but lots of stuff happened like internet. They also not a completed united front and sometimes other parties interfere, like Musk buying Twitter.
But ofc that’s just me making up stuff, who’s gonna believe that?
I think everybody is getting paranoid “as usual, see exordium”
If they can utilize AI to create better NPC’s im all for it, especially since most games aren’t like EVE and have the full human interaction like scamming, emotions etc..
But its not even going to be touching the live server, a offline one..
Huxley wrote Brave New World (published 1932), and George Orwell wrote 1984 (published 1949). The former is sometimes viewed as the Western-style model for a control state, while the latter is more inline with the Soviet-style control state. It’s a common conspiracy theory that both men had some inside knowledge of the secret machinations of the elite, but neither were born to great wealth or status.
Huxley worked as a teacher and later, in a chemical plant, before moving to Hollywood and becoming a screenwriter (fun fact, Aldous Huxley was George Orwell’s French teacher at Eton College). Huxley credited his time at the chemical plant for inspiring Brave New World.
George Orwell’s Animal Farm (1945) and 1984 were largely inspired by his experiences fighting in the Spanish Civil War, and later informed by the events of World War II.
I swear this forum is so full of paranoia, conspiracists and illogical overreactions that it’s impossible to take most of the posts here seriously. I don’t know what’s worse; the Exordium overreaction or the Google paranoia. At this point give me a good old-fashioned gank/anti-gank thread!*
I don’t worry much about AI. It is another fad trend tech toy. I used it to make some music videos, I dropped in on ChatGPT and tested its stupid factor. The algorithms work on making it a real kiss-ass and toady. I would never pay much for AI in the business world, since it makes a lot of mistakes. An employee can make a mistake and you get the pleasure of terminating them. When your AI makes a mistake, it is your mistake to own.
I don’t really see any point to leaving the game because they are jumping into bed with Google Deepmind. You only need to be concerned when they start using the AI to write code for this game. Even so, I am not financially vested in this game enough to care about AI errors, the company will need to go back and correct in the future.
I hope you will enjoy your future gaming elsewhere.
