Since we dont have any specific data on that matter we both can only assume. I do assume that most players understand the appeal and motivation in an unlimited PvP game. I do also assume there are lots of players who like EvE for other reasons despite unlimited PvP.
This is shown by the little participation in ganking in the grander scheme which only makes up less 10% of overall losses in HS, Null, Low:
It is also backed by player surveys (in china) , which led CCP to designing an entirely new server:

According to feedback from the pilots, we undertook a series of bold ideas and experimentation, however we found these will have very large impacts on the current state of EVE gameplay. Thus, under the consideration of not severely impacting the experience of pilots, we came up with this idea “why not put these new ideas in a new test server to show everyone?”

That’s because they don’t understand how Eve works. It is a skill based game with a flat power curve, and the average player is probably only a couple of years old.
No, there are in fact players who are decades ahead, in terms of SP, in number of multiboxing accounts, in liquid ISK, overall assets, etc.
But even if we go by “only a couple of years”, a “couple of years” behind in progress allready is a giant barrier of entry and instant no-no to a shtlot of folks, especially in this day and age of gaming.
Perhaps you beside EvE, don’t know much about modern gaming mentality?

It is a skill based game
Yes it is, to a degree… but jesus please dont try to make EvE look like eSports again LOL :
skill progression in Esports. […] to reflect Eve Online.
Skillcap in EvE is a joke compared to… well basically anything else in real eSports.
And btw “There are no fair fight in EvE”, right? right.

but the truth of the matter is that there are players out there that love the challenge and emergent game play opportunities that ganking provides.
But truth of the matter is the majority (based on overall ganking loss vs total loss numbers shown above) does not live a gankers life and propably a BIG amount of players do want an experience without highsec ganking, thus a new server.
So why not give people freedom of choice when they open their launcher, letting them pick and choose which experience / server they prefer? What do you loose by giving options? Why are you so against the idea of a new, different server?
I think CCP is doing the right move in China there.

You think this because you are a defeatist with a strong external locus of control.
And you think this because your my psychologist?
