EVE Online dev team is understaffed

They should make thicker fiber-optics so more data can pass through it, hence the understaffedness of the devs would better go unnoticed.

To be fair they have been pretty smart about it:

First they focus hard core on event’s creating ton’s of them, so that they don’t have to work on them for awhile, then they use the time afterwards to work on back end stuff all while these event’s keep flipping over so we see these updates and think ok well something is happening.

But I think the nature of the game brings out a side of us that is questioning these things more often.

I remember playing a russian game called Skyforge absoletly fantastic game while it was being developed they saw that it was successful, added a repeating loop of event’s then monetized it and made it pay to win. It hasn’t gotten a single update in like 8 years or something and this has jadded me when I see this pattern of event cycles now.

I don’t think it’s the nature of the game. I think more and more people realize that they’ve been lied to for decades so the natural instinct is to become overly doubtful of anyone who has nothing to back up their blah-blah.

I remember that game but never played it.

I fear you are mistaken. Most players want PVP to happen only in instanced events so things can be fair and we can stream appropriately.

Rest of space can be used for safe PVE as intended.

Its minority actually and even that minority only thinks they want it, but they don’t.

Why would you say this?!

Citation needed.

Otherwise it’s just total B.S.

We know what their dev numbers are, what earnings they have, and what game they work on, we know the game also. That is enough to compare them.
Reasons and goal is irrelevant.
What counts for you as a player is the game and player numbers. Player numbers are lower each year because game is in maintenance mode. Dev numbers when compared are confirming it. Lack of big new stuff in game is confirming it.

I think everyone in CCP knows it, but they do enough money yet to not care about EVE only, they think they can just jack up sub prices and it will be fine, but it will not be. They will earn less and less. If the price for the thing rises but the contents of the thing doesnt make people want it more than before, people dont pay the price. It happened. The thing is they should have been adding content, then jacking up the price if its successfull.

All companies have management problems, but if they are undestaffed, there is also actual workforce problem.

The new map on the chinese server they have an official post about it a week or so ago. The map is shaped in a donut with half the amount of stars. Being the outside highsec then low and then null in the inner ring. In highsec there will be perma safety on. Alliances can be maximum 4 corps with a exponential increase in costs for holding more then 4 systems. An inner part in yhe donut which connects null to different sides. The only thing i dont like about it is the reduction in half of the amount of stars.

new fresh start server with new ruleset is desperately needed and will come to EU/NA rather sooner than later

let china do the alpha and beta testing and once its all polished and ready bring it to us.

‘New Dawn’ Map:

https://evepc.163.com/news/official/20220715/29096_1031002.html

2022-07-15

Translation:

Since Netease and CCP have relaunched EVE to players in April 2020, we have also undertaken a series of player communications in addition to normal operations. According to feedback from the pilots, we undertook a series of bold ideas and experimentation, however we found these will have very large impacts on the current state of EVE gameplay. Thus, under the consideration of not severely impacting the experience of pilots, we came up with this idea “why not put these new ideas in a new test server to show everyone?”

So under the basis of not changing the core of eve, we wish to create a new universe and implement our changes there. Although it’s not perfect at the moment, we await pilots to come experiment in the new eve universe and help us improved it together.

Curious pilots may ask, what kind of changes are going to be in this new universe? This devblog will help you understand.

Map changes

Compared to Serenity, the new universe has a completely different map. The paradign has been changed from 0.0 surrounding highsec to highsec surrounding 0.0. The new map also changes the makeup of the galaxy, causing many systems to disappear. At the same time many gates will also change. We hope that through this type of change, the game will have a higher rhythm, and the players will have new opportunities and challenges.

Safety Adjustment in Highsec

“Highsec isn’t safe” has been a controversial issue for players since the very beginning. In the new universe, all safeties will be locked green in highsec so players can not lose their ships to unexpected PvP.

New Alliance system, more experimentation

In the new universe, we are testing a change on alliance composition. Every alliance may have at most 4 corp, each corp with 255 pilots. The more sov an alliance holds, the higher sov bill per system. The number of nodes in a sov contest has been reduced, and the vulnerability time of sov will be restricted so it can not be late night (TL:note China Server all runs on 1 TZ).

More value from idle ships

In the new universe, we want players to get more value from their ship collection. So owning ships will give bonuses to the current piloted ship. This works like a new fitting resource and the more powerful bonuses granted by owning hulls will require more fitting. Combining ship bonuses can create many different reactions.

Stellar Express Recovery Service

In the new universe, Stellar Express Recovery Service can allow a player to recover a destroyed ship (minus cargo) in their last docked station after paying a fee. Once the ship is recovered it can be used again. However this recovery is not unconditional. A ship exploding will cause the ship and items to lose durability, and items with zero durability will vanish. We hope this change will greatly alleviate the frustration of new players losing their ship, and allow them get back in the fray more quickly, and mechanically, remove the despair of a catastrophic “all your eggs in one basket” event.

Wreck Journal, and journal exchange

In the new universe, we will be testing a new items that drops in the wrecks of player ships, wreckage loss journal. The more expensive the ship and fitting, the more journals drop. The journal can be used to exchange for certain rewards, ranging from daily supplies box to various rare rewards.

Ship Suitability System

In the new universe, we will be testing what we call a “suitability system”. The capability of ships can expand beyond that of just pilot skill. As the pilot pilots the ship, completes certain challenges, and uses certain in game consumables, the ship will gain additional bonuses.

Assistance Beacon Scanner

In the new Universe, players can find entry points on the map. Players can use these entry point to join a battle or help in a supply operation. Completing these tasks will grant certain bonuses.

The changes are not limited to the above, more content will be released and we hope the players test them with us together.

The thing u guys are neglecting is: they are NOT removing the old server, they are adding a new server so people can actually choose which they prefer.

They will find with 0 ganking in highsec all their high sec players will get bored and either move to another part of space or consider eve won and leave the game after 6 months, will be interesting to see how it plays out.

all the micro transaction stuff like ship logs sounds terrible thou, literally pay to win as its influencing ship strength. You will see store items + 100% chance to find more ship log’s or some dumb stuff.

Better solution will probibly green saftey stuck on green only for 1.0 system’s, only the cheapest astroid 1type + lvl 2 missions max in 1.0 or something and then everything else is pew pew at your own risk.

No where does it say this feature gonna be MTX.

But even if it is what is the difference? EvE as it is now, allready is pay2win.
You can just plex everything in the game.

Also if you dont like this or any other change, just stay on old server, literally nothing changes for you.

No they are everything, as always the WHY is super important.

No, not really. People just use it to try and use it for their personal cause. What we’ve been losing is folks who did nothing but “numbers go up” on their 38 accounts (no one is going to miss those, in fact them being gone opens up opportunities for newer players), people who’ve been playing for 10+ years and should have moved on years ago but couldn’t. And a select few who ACTUALLY can’t deal with the price increase (so not the 99.99% going “I don’t like price increases” and rage about it).

If it were they would do stuff to INCREASE player popularity: everything more, more grinding, more easy money. Appease to the masses. They’re doing the opposite, knowingly: Short term bad, long term good decisions. Do you really think they didn’t know that making grind bears angry would cause sub losses? They expected it, they calculated for ragers raging and crying. They simply did not care about those because ultimately the future of this game does not hinge on grindbears who outstayed their welcome 5 years ago and can’t stop crying.

No.

WE are the content, if you feel a sandbox like EVE should have DEV created content you’re playing the wrong game (which explains the crying). The content had gone because over time a vast majority of players just do the “numbers go up” in all safety and silence and because there are so many of those that stifles any sort of competition, interaction and conquest. The game became stale because lazy/scardycat grinders started making up for large bulk of the players.

The players who were massively affected by the scarcity changes, the cap changes earlier, the overall pve grind changes, the market changes and all that’s been happening for a while then THEY WERE PART OF THE PROBLEM. All these people crying and moaning are part of the problem and CCP finally saw the light and went “we gotta cull those, for the long term betterment of the game”. Freeing up an infestation of grindbears opens up room for more interacting players.

These people stamping their feet trying to bully CCP by going “change or I’ll leave” and CCP going “double dare, see if I care”. That’s not “maintenance mode” is it.

I would like to try a new server even if its just a map change and smaller universe im tired of this old thing been on it for 15+ years now its stale.

Of course not, taking that down would be terrible PR.

It’s better to divide and conquer on an already dwindling Eve community and make the steps necessary to “modernize” the new face of Eve with a new server and new rules.

All those that are currently ingame and want highsec 100% safe, I can think of many that would migrate without second thought.

Content-wise the old server would just be left to rot while they put all Dev efforts into the new version, and more and more player would bleed out from the old, and then they would have have a good excuse to pull the plug from Eve “Classic”, seeing it more as a financial burden.

I would play on both servers tbh lol. Play mainly on the current one and just do a test char on the new one to test the waters.

If a smaller universe makes things more exciting then I would probably move over completely yea. Space is waaaay to empty atm.
