EVE Online for Linux - It's Time to Support the Community

Latest launcher is working on wine devel 10.11

why should they continue to support a system that it’s falling behind ? itƬs takes away resource usefull for something else

I guess someone didn’t get the news that it is windows now that is starting to ā€œfall behindā€, when it comes to performance?

good think i have the latest version

eventualy, you stop supporting old version; you can’t expect company to support very old version because someone might still play it.

I just recently came back to EVE, and this is the first time I’ve gotten even remotely serious about EVE. I love the game.

I will never run Windows again, for various reasons.

Getting a new EVE install running on Linux is a ridiculous frustrating PITA.

I REALLY REALLY want to go Omega, but I’m leaning more in the direction of just finding a different game. I have wasted days tweaking, installing, reinstalling, researching, etc.

If CCP doesn’t want my money, I have plenty of other ways to spend it.

Maybe go to the linux section of the forums and ask your questions there.

EVE on Linux used to be easy and straightforward when everyone used the classic way with wine. But nowadays there are so many launchers, Lutris, Playonlinux, Steam and whatnot. And each has their own problems, scattering the already small current userbase of EVE on Linux to a point where just no one is able to help you or straight away wants you to implement his/her method as it is the only one they know about. Or they drag you to their discord - preventing the needed information flow for others seeking help in the forums.

So if you need help, i again suggest you try to describe your problems in the linux section and maybe someone helps you out.

I am on the classic wine way since i find it most easy for me out of years long experience, but thats nothing for people focused on modern launchers i guess. But then again i also use debian and no fancy lifestyle distro.

I was really into playing with Linux. At some point, I got success; using Lutris with some tweaks, yet it was a waste of time:

  • Wayland lacks support for push-to-talk in Discord/Mumble
  • X11 support for HiDPI
  • Considerably fewer FPS
  • You never know if it’s still working

I think the scenario where it pays off is when you are a solo player, multiboxing many toons that your CPU cannot handle running on Windows.

Currently, I am back to dual-boot.

I think you confused the new NFT game which has an open source client, i dont remember what its called because my subconscious sorted it as dead-before-launch. EvE is entirely closed source with a small bit of API.

It would be ideal if they just worked with Valve to give them error reports from users using proton.

My main issue with proton8 was after about 10-40 minutes the GUIs would stop working, it would start with a few buttons then get worse. Flying in highsec was tolerable but lowsec wasnt viable.
Trying proton9 today.
