EVEMon and Pyfa problem

I tried to google this problem but I can’t find an answer. So I installed EVEMon but when I try to add a new character it crashes. This happens everytime even when I delete the old cache files as is suggested in the “crash message”. I’ve copied the technical details of the error below. The wierd thing is that I’ve tried installing EVEMon on other computers and it worked just fine.

With Pyfa it’s a somewhat similar story. I can find a character via ESI but when trying to add them it doesn’t work. I can get EVE Online fits from the character(s) wierdly enough, but I can’t add them to be used for fittings. This works fine on other computers too. Something goes wrong when using these programs on this particular computer and I have no idea why. I would really like to have them on the computer I play on, not on a different one.

I really appreciate the help.

How long have you been trying, and were you trying yesterday? There were some connectivity issues going on at the time, I couldn’t even log into the EVE Portal app on Android. Other users are also reporting lingering issues with chat in-game.

I’ve been trying the last two days, multiple times each day. Both EVEMon and Pyfa worked fine on two other computers. No problems. On my gaming computer they don’t work. Tried just now without any luck. I updated the .NET framework to see if that was the problem. Didn’t help. :frowning:

Try running either app as Admin.

Doesn’t work either, sadly.

Hmm… does that machine have a different AV provider than the others? Bitdefender and other commercial solutions can get pretty block-happy.

No, just the default Windows stuff. It is only EVEMon that crashes. Pyfa just doesn’t let me add characters (which makes it pretty useless anyway).

Apparently others have hit this problem with EVEMon: https://github.com/evemondevteam/evemon/issues/99

Yes, I found that thread too but sadly no one responded to him/her.

Full reinstall of EVEMon with the latest binaries from Github?

I followed the links from EVE University The file names I downloaded are “pyfa-v2.15.1-win” and “EVEMon-install-4.0.14”:

Same place I downloaded it on the two other computers where it worked so there’s something different with this computer.

Have you tried creating a different user account on that computer to see if that works, maybe a profile issue on the machine?

As far as I can see they changed it so you have to sign in with a Microsoft account if you want to add a new account. This seems to be confirmed by articles from last month.

It’s really wierd. Guess I have to use EVEMon and Pyfa on another computer or not at all. It’s a shame because I love to use them. :frowning:

where does it say that, surely that would effect all current users too and I dont sign in to either with a microsoft account

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026923/windows-10-create-a-local-user-or-administrator-account

Hmm, it doesn’t seem to work for me. It says that I can log on with my Microsoft account add a family member. It doesn’t let me do that (nothing happens when I click “log on Microsoft account”. The other option is to add non-family member. Same thing happens when clicking on that. Really wierd.

Tap the Windows icon.

  1. Select Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts .
  3. Select Family & other users .
  4. Tap " Add someone else to this PC."
  5. Select “I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.”
  6. Select " Add a user without a Microsoft account ."
  7. Enter a username, type the account’s password twice, enter a clue and select Next.

Yeah, it doesn’t let me do that. At step 4. it briefly opens up a blank window which disappears instantly. I don’t get futher options.

Edit: Found another way to add an account. I’m trying it right now.

I made another user and it works on that account. So there’s some kind of conflict when using my own account. I have no idea what that could be.

Could be a corrupt profile. You could contiinue to try and troubleshoot it or use the new one you created, should be easy to move at least the profile folders over. If you do that, do one at a time and try pyfa and evemon each time just in case the probelm occurs again.
