I believe it’s to distinguish the elite PvPers from the rest of the plebs. If you have a dark name, it means you’re really good at PvP and everyone else should respect you.
Possibly related to their forum posting history then. New posters are dark grey too.

There are two types of antigankers in the game, those that just go and repeatedly fail to antigank and see no need to brag about how good they are and how bad everyone else is, a good example of a permafailure antiganker is Githany. The other type is what I call a antigwanker, a good example of this type is Dracvlad. They insist in acting like complete tools at all times be it in local and on the forums, and especially on the forums. It is possible that this is due to a stifling and crushing inferiority complex that they all seem to share, they cannot help but insist in telling everyone how good they are, how bad everyone else is, Antigwankers indeed…

I can feel the hate emanating from these forum luvies, did you lot know that this is only a game? I get a fanatical religious extremist vibe from you lot, including those that like these type of posts too.
Moving back into the subject matter, it seems that RIOT have for the moment decided not to put up or activate another structure but are allying in on wars. Despite my gentle ribbing of Destiny they are effective war deccers and they have a player who is a master at using structures in defence. It was evident from the numbers that they brought against DamnFamm, UK and EM in earlier battles that they have decent numbers and an effective list of allies, though some of them did drop away, one losing its own war HQ.
It will be interesting to see how they bounce back from this, though I don’t see any serious issues for them as they seem to be quite active and obviously know how to take losses.
Losing to Blackflag is no disgrace, because Blackflag are the best mercs by a long way. It would have been interesting to see if DF / UK could have taken out that structure on their own, I think they would have done it. It was an impressive dismantling of that RIOT fleet backed up by the FAX.
This brings me to another question, why do they even bother with Caldari space, there are some decent groups in Mimatar space, so why bother with Caldari space if it has this cost? They operate in Amarr and Mimatar space and they have enough content there.
Still an interesting level of play in hisec from my point of view.
Yesterday we had the absurdity of me delivering 3 separate corp intels that Safety were operating in Halaima…which some seem to have just ignored and got ganked anyway. This is why I’m an opportunist rather than a dedicated AG…I simply can’t be bothered fighting on behalf of people who don’t help themselves.

That is more of an issue with your alliance, though it happens with many alliances. It is also an issue in that most game play is individual, or so mind numbingly boring that they lose interest and do other things which makes them easy to kill.
But you are touching on the issue that hits most players who do AG, why bother helping people who can’t help themselves. When you see yet another person getting ganked with no tank, you kinda get to the meh point…
For me, I don’t really care about the gank victims. It’s more about being able to ‘punch up’ rather than ‘punch down’…and high profile characters such as gankers, those with bounty on them ( such as Cack Sloppers ) are simply gonna look better on killboard than ‘Joe Bloggs in an Ibis’ or something. I even felt tempted on one occasion to have a go at zapping Macgybo. I’m not doing very well in this goal…but am getting there. At least I now leave dock intending to get into trouble.
Plus all my wizzing around Eve helps me learn a lot about precisely the topic of this thread…as I see a lot of these groups in action, and although Destiny disputed it in a post some while ago I do think that having a keen sense of the Eve map and what is going on where is really important in the long run.
I cared about some victims, but only those that made efforts and did not have a lot, the ones who were screwed the most were people doing hisec hauling contracts, but part of the issue is that some players became so rich that they don’t care.
It is fun to get in the way of the better ones, the best ganker in the game was Kusion by a long way. I was focussed on Niarja more than anything else as I was based in Khafis, so did not really operate too much in Caldari space, though I was in a few fleets in the past when needed, AG having more fleet activity in the past, like repping his victims, jumping on his Talos’s in Jita, but it was only when I came back into the game after my year out that I actually stopped two of his ganks dead solo because he used a Caracal on a -10 character as initial tackle so I could nuke his locking range. But they brought in another player who was using tags, so my fun was countered. Still I enjoyed that.
Totally that, I suggest that people watch things going on, look at what is around you, get to see who is scouting, watch them gank, learn from it. You can have a lot of fun with it, most importantly it enables you to know what to do. In the early part of my Eve play I spent time watching what people were doing, so I could work out how to counter and if you do that then you will be hard to kill.
People gave you advice on using small ships and just having fun with them, you will meet a lot of blobs doing that and rarely will you get a decent 1v1 but when you do it is great fun. What I did was move to Stain about six months in and walked into an ego war by the person running the area, it was great experience and as such I have a preference for small gang and evasion. NPC nullsec is to me the best place to develop in.

Oh my word, that is pretty damn awesome, but soon Destiny Corrupted will log on and jump into that fleet saving Falcon of hers and with her forum warrior skill smite eve uni with all her ECM might.

Don’t bother trying to explain, those people won’t get it. They’re basically null-sec players in high-sec. The only reason they’re even here is because they received orders to post, like when he-who-can’t-be-named-unless-I-want-a-permaban-from-the-game makes a thread and 15 minutes later there’s like 300 temps liking his post.
