Expert Systems - Coming Soon!

Ok, none of us knowing the true details. Would it not be better to invest the rl $ into skill inj’s instead of this? At least you would keep the skills.

Yes. If, you could continue to access those skills afterwards.

In the scenario where you are an alpha, who gets access to omega mining barge skills, then no. You could only access those skills afterwards if you also subbed to omega = additional RL $. Which would obviously be the long term goal of CCP.

But, if your play style is “casual” enough, and you only need to mine occasionally to make isk, then it might be cheaper just to use an ES once a month rather than sub? Either way, CCP gets more money than it does now, so who would really care?

They are fixing the economy, that’s the point of all the current stuff.
Complaining about scarcity while saying they should fix the economy is a textbook definition of irony.

I still get the impression that CCP wants to keep the numbers low but suck $ outta the game at the same time. I cant explain it…

Cynics might say, if enough people who tried EvE in 2020 actually stayed, and all of them went into fleet wars, the servers would grind to a halt. So, numbers of players would need to be pegged.

However, if enough of those players took up mining or other activities instead, even related ganking, it would be more spread out eg due to current resource scarcity, and numbers could be much higher.

The Gist of the Expert systems, is to let someone get a taste of what its like to be a miner or to use other mods etc. Why inject into it if it turns out you don’t like mining? If i’m a newbro, and I’m on the fence about being a miner, i can purchase the ES, try it a few days and If i don’t like it, I won’t have wasted any skills injecting to become a miner, when those skills can go somewhere else.

EVE gets it’s biggest boost in numbers after epic fleet battles in null. While I agree that any player retention is good, this game will not grow much with that game plan. And again, I still think doesn’t mind that as long as the supposed whale keep feeding the system.

Who knows, I just like conspiracy theories!

Well. I guess if the player has enough to spend to try?

They already are.

As it is not permanent:
These stuff should just be free after completing each new player career agent.

Probably requires an Omega, but nothing more than that.

But imagine you jumped into a new game and you see a large skill que timer of weeks to months, and then a price tag attached to temporarily escape it. New players will think the game is a scam. In theory and on paper it seems well intended, perhaps even “good”, but in practice for a set of truly newbro eyes, I think they’d just laugh and quit on the spot.

Exactly.

And I dread Rookie Help chat in the future.

Literally daily, including yesterday, Rookies ask ‘Do I have to have Omega to have a Mining Barge?’ and we quite right explain they need Omega because Alpha is just a free trial and Omega is the full game. There is integrity in that answer. There is history there. We can tell them the game has been subscription based since 2003 and that the subscription model is the ‘normal’ full game.

Moving forward, how do we answer:

‘Do I have to have Omega to have a Mining Barge?’

‘No, you can pay $ in the store to have one for a week’

Really?

Where is the integrity in that?

I really don’t want to be a part of a system where ‘insert coin’ is an actual valid answer to questions about what an Alpha can or can’t have.

Ugh.

CCP doesn’t have integrity since a long time. :stuck_out_tongue:

Or they could just grind them with in game ISK . A daunting task , but eventually you will have them , so basically they can get them for free at the expense of their time.

But you will have paid cash to try that out.

It’s not a free taster.

That’s fine if you’re okay and throwing cash at things you want to try out in a game, but for Rookies who will have to have it explained to them that they have 3 options, don’t have it, train for it like we all did in the past, or throw cash at it to have it now, I can’t see how that looks good.

They don’t even get to keep it. The cash is gone, then a week later so is what they paid for and they have to do it the normal way anyway.

Doesn’t this actually waste more time if you end up liking the thing?

You have a ‘pretend week’ in which you don’t really have the skills and can’t actually do the thing.

So although you say:

You will have wasted a week pretending to be a miner if you end up not wanting to do it.

Further, you will have wasted a week if you do end up wanting to become a miner, because presumably you weren’t training the skills in case you didn’t end up wanting to become a miner after all.

So from any angle, you will have wasted a week and paid $ for doing so too.

How is that different from “Insert coin for Omega for one month”
You are just phrasing it differently then getting upset over the way you yourself are phrasing it.

Main thing is that the ‘Expert System’ skills vanish after a week whereas Omega skills you trained don’t vanish when you go back to Alpha, they just become inactive. The players who buy these ‘Expert System’ skills will still have to purchase Omega and train those skills after the week runs out. That sounds like a money grab scam to me.

If CCP really wanted to entice new Alpha players to sub as Omega, they would give those ‘Expert System’ skill packs as a reward for completing each one of the Career Agents.

Because that’s access to the full game, puts them on a level with full subscribers and gives them access to everything Omega offers, and because that makes sense for a game that has been subscription based since 2003. Not to mention, perhaps most importantly, whatever they train in that month is permanent and actually belongs to them.

If you can’t see the difference between that and ‘pay $ to rent a set of ghost skills you won’t even own a week from now’ then there’s something wrong with you.

Not at all. Read the above. It’s not even close to being the same thing.

Why not just start a noob off in a nice ship with full skill points just for the first mission so they can feel the power of being an absolute beast then as soon as that mission is done they get ganked by npc’s loose their nice ship and pod and start with the normal start where they can skill up, that way they know what they have to look forward to.

obviously they don’t have the ability to warp out of the starter site with that ship as they have to first finish the mission (short so that people who have done it before can get it over and done with quickly for their alts.)

The mission can be any length just make it so that if the player leaves the ship (in pod) then the ship explodes immediately. In their pod they can warp out and the mission should cancel if the ship exploded or the player is in pod or whatever.
