There are literally millions upon millions of Nanocoating and Patterns available in New Eden.
I suggest a new profession, Nanocoating and Pattern Extractor. An extremely skill detailed profession that would require a new ship that would use a specialized salvager to extract colors from all New Eden and patterns from every object and background in New Eden. The nanocoating’s and patterns would then be mixed in a Paragon station to create Capsuleer based patterns and Nanocoating’s.
I’m not sure about your proposal but I like the basis of it…
Mainly the idea of having a skill that works within the ‘Personalization Screen’ of the Fitting window while docked in a station, basically enabling players to remove active ship skins from their own ships by extracting the base materials and depositing those materials back into their items hangar..

No, more along the lines of extracting patterns from planets, asteroids, outside of stations, wormhole effects, like and then converting into patterns and nanocoating. For example, you take a picture of a Sansha Super camera with the special camera fit to your ship. From there, you take the photo into your lab and edit it until you get the part that you want.
I’d pitch the same proposal for clothing as well.
Ahh, sorta like a Chameleon that can camouflage itself to match the background pattern and color..
How would this work in practice?
There is no way the game could allow players to ‘extract patterns’ from planets and moons and have them magically available for SKINR patterns unless the developers first created SKINR patterns for all those things you might want to extract, at which point they might just release the patterns directly instead of letting us extract them in such a convoluted manner.
This idea sounds impractical.

it is called angling your camera and cloaking, then you see the ‘skin’ on the ship
