Hello all, I’m not sure if this is in the wrong sub but I couldn’t find a better fit.
My question regards the timing on faction standings. I was running the SoE Epic Arc yesterday and when I entered Tanoo I noticed that the Ammatar Mandate did not like me very much. I managed to dock up and checked my standings, they were somewhere around -5.8 or such. I then put all the social skills I could find in the queue and instantly completed them with some SP I keep on hold for moments such as these. That pushed my standings with the Mandate to -2.8. “Great” I thought, that should be good enough for now and proceeded with my mission. The Navy still came and shot my ship to bits though.
I am now wondering if this is working as intended? I checked the standings before undocking and assumed the value shown would dictate the actions of the Navy. Or is there a hidden refresh timer before the Navy “realizes” my new standing? If so, why then show a standing that is not actually having any current effect?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I hate not understanding what happened and it potentially happening again.
If you still had timers running from being shoot at, it was likely due to the NPCs ‘remembering’ you and still technically in an engagement with you. I would have waited for the timers to clear, then relog before undocking.
Yeah, you should have done a relog right after raising your negative standings.. That basically allows the server and client to get in sync with each other…
A long time ago we use to do that a lot, especially after gaining standing to access a higher level Agent or like in your case, gaining standing to travel safely through hostile Faction space..
Anyway, here’s the best way to do it:
Esc menu > select ‘Reset Settings’ tab > select ‘Clear All Cache Files’…
That will force a relog by closing out the game.. Most times that issue is usually resolved after relogging into the game…
Ammatar Mandate Faction controls Derelik Region… As the OP quickly found out, having -5.8 Faction Standing made her “kill on sight” by Navy NPC’s anywhere in that faction’s space.
The Social Skills, probably Diplomacy, that she injected raised her Ammatar Mandate Faction Standing to -2.8 which is fine for traveling through hostile Faction space…
You do raise a good point about personal Security Status… From Uniwiki:
Travel restrictions
Once your security status drops below certain thresholds, the empire faction police will start hunting you when you enter high security system. Any cloaking device fitted to your ship will also be disabled based on the same criteria, so you cannot cloak up to avoid the faction police. You will also not be able to dock while in a ship or tether at a player-owned structure.
Security status of -2.0 or below means you’ll be attacked in 1.0 systems.
Security status of -2.5 or below means you’ll be attacked in 0.9 systems.
Security status of -3.0 or below means you’ll be attacked in 0.8 systems.
Security status of -3.5 or below means you’ll be attacked in 0.7 systems.
Security status of -4.0 or below means you’ll be attacked in 0.6 systems.
Security status of -4.5 or below means you’ll be attacked in 0.5 systems.
However I don’t think that’s the case since she was able to dock her ship… I think the issue is what I posted earlier, after raising Faction Standings the server and client needed to get in sync with each other… Doing a relog usually corrects that issue… Worst case scenario which rarely happens anymore - have to wait for Downtime and if the issue still remains, file a support ticket and wait for GM to correct the issue…
Thank you for the input. My sec status is positive and my standing with Amarr Empire too, so that wouldn’t have been the issue as you deduced. Its more likely that either I should have done a reboot or that I still had timers running from being shot at in the first place as Malak Starfire suggested. I was pretty quick with undocking again after injecting the skills so timers were possibly still running, I didn’t check though.
Anyways, I now know to be more careful and not to blindly trust the state displayed in the standings screen.
I was pretty quick docking, injecting skills and then undocking again so timers might have played a role for sure. Thanks for the pointer, I’ll make sure to keep a better eye on those in the future.
