As a New Jersey resident, I am extremely excited to learn that Fan Fest could be coming to New York or Philadelphia or some other place around here. Managing airfare, hotels, and extra days off from work just for travel time can make things very difficult and expensive. And that does not even include the cost of three nights of binge drinking!
Unless new information has come out, no. At eve vegas, it was stated that location was subject to (probably significant) debate.
Any Airport Hilton will do for a location,… and probably will.
Part of the reason development gets held up is because of the prep time needed to make Fanfest happen. CCP host it so they must do everything with their own man hours. In the other 4 player gatherings that would presumably be supplemented by those who run those events and CCP would play more a support role than a lead role. As a result the impact on development should be negligible since they arent having to prep all this stuff, they can contact the venue’s planning team, send some stuff over to them to put together, and they can do the back stage work so that CCP just has to show up to deliver.
#FanFestToronto Bring a Fanfest to Canada CCP!
If you come to Portugal with fanfest (where I live now), I’ll teach some of you scrubs to surf (the ocean), then we go blow ■■■■ up on my new 34" screen. Bring your own wetsuits tho, don’t like people pissing into mine.
Come to Australia and you won’t need the wetsuit.
On topic, to me this just feels like there is no 2019 Fanfest, the Events they listed are already in existe and CCP staff come to them already.
Ccp already ran eve into the ground, it’s a walking zombie by now
I’m a firm believer of this. There was a San Francisco location that was shut down. One of the historical aspects of CCP is that it’s sequestered in Iceland. As someone who has a personal concern for employment, moving to Iceland to work seems like a bad idea. There is little opportunity to network in person or find employment if you find yourself out of work. It’s a huge commitment.
If there was a serious location in a bigger talent pool, I think you would see more experience coming and going from the company. The hard reality is it happens, and I think a lot of professionals in the industry have accepted that. The minimum expectation seems to be that you’re paid for the work you do, and finding follow-on jobs after projects is up to the individual. If you move all the way out to Iceland, that isn’t so easy.
EVE’s scope of gameplay has seemed to tighten up over the last six months, and it seems like decisions have been made to strengthen the game in the areas it’s known for. Big fleet battles, structures, things like that. A good idea overall. They seem to have the talent they need while operating out of Iceland and London, and Shanghai.
However. I agree that you could probably realize some benefit from transient staff from other games and even industries, and that would be most easily realized by having locations in more traditional markets.
Holding player gatherings outside of Iceland is probably a good idea just for the logistics. Vegas is the largest tourist attraction in the world, so that success is kind of guaranteed. By dedicating some CCP staff to gatherings in other tourist hubs, they’re going to realize a better turnout overall. At least I think so.
CCP’s Final Farewell World Tour
Meeeh how will I justify my annual Icelandic trip now ?
Thx CCP
