Forsaken Fortress – Coming 26 May

I guess I kind of got excited and thought there might be a plan to clean-up all the POCOs as well that aren’t being used. I think it’d be nice if that maybe got added in an update to the update somehow. Just a request

Hi CCP.

I haven’t seen this brought up.
This seems like it will act as a massive barrier to an inactive player returning. It would be very easy for a player to go inactive for some.reason then months later the citadel their stuff is in goes abandoned.
Now when they log in, they see all their stuff got blown up and log back out.

Are there any plans to address this, such as automatically putting all assets in citadels into asset safety for inactive characters when they hit the 3 month or 1 month point.
Thus then preserves their own assets but avoids issues around them being passed stuff via dropboxes to save other people’s stuff later.

You get a +1 from me, CCP. We used to have an event like this every year in Star Wars Galaxies. All of the player houses that had let the maintenance run out were marked as abandoned and we could go around destroying those houses.

  1. Can asset safety be activated manually on assets located in an abandoned structure?

  2. Can asset safety be activated manually on assets located in an abandoned structure that is damaged?

  3. When an abandoned structure survives a hull reinforcement timer, do the service modules attempt to restart themselves? This is important in the case that a director of the owning corporation is unavailable but someone has access to control the structure and deposit fuel in the bay.

Now you’re thinking with Portals!

This only applies to the owner of the Structure? Or anyone who placed something in there?

From a wormholer point of view it’s kinda fun to see the arguments against the changes in asset safety when you only need to fuel the structure to keep your precious stuff safe. We don’t get the same luxury, you know. And we are still playing. And still using structures

A % of the value of the assets transferred would have been better. Rewards for killing the structure and players don’t lose out so badly. Now the rich just get richer.

But even besides that, why implement this when many players, specifically miners, are not playing due to other changes you’ve made?

AFIK this is not possible. I believe that you can only sell to a remote buy order from a NPC station, otherwise you have to be in the citadel that the buy order is at. I could be wrong but as far as I can remember I have never once had a region wide buy order have any items sold to it in citadels other than the one the order was placed in.

The reason I got for why this wasn’t implemented was that it was challenging to implement the timing of payment. Imagine you got 50% of the asset safety tax when asset safety was activated. Who gets the money? All the players that shot the structure? The corporation that did the highest damage? It might be months or years before the ISK is paid.

Thus the incentive decreases. I suspect this was just easier for them.

What about the alliances/corporations that have invested billions of isk over the last few months putting up moon drills? Now they have no time to wait and see how the moon mining changes pan out before either fueling or taking down structures. The only real choice is to potentially waste billions more isk fueling stations that may or may not be profitable.

Turn off all but the cheapest service module. You don’t have to keep all the modules running. Just a single module.
CCP are effectively adding an upkeep cost to structures with this change. I think the asset safety part has huge implications on how viable public structures are. A lot of people will move back to stations in highsec I bet. But the concept of upkeep costs for big things is one CCP have talked about for years as something lacking in EVE to prevent endless growth.

There’s a simple solution for those who say they’re risking everything: don’t put everything in a structure only you can maintain.

totally agree with you. sometimes life happens and you just cant log in for a week or two or more… your computer dies, your house gets destroyed, you have to go to the hospital for something… keeping a pretend internet space station turned on might not be the 1st thing on your mind… but it would be nice to come back to. i think just a LITTLE BIT more flexibility is called for here.

a timer of 14 days would be better. 30 days might be too long?

The only module an athanor for moon mining has installed is the moon drill at a fuel cost of about 70 million isk per month. That is going to add up quickly.

Okay I haven’t seen this asked yet: when the patch goes live, will structures immediately drop into abandoned, or will the count start on that day and the first will drop 7 days later?

I’m on a phone so can’t check. What’s the cheapest module to run.
Because you can uninstall the moon still if you aren’t sure if you want it and put another service module in. Nothing stops that.

Good question. Seems like an important detail!

I just tested it to be sure and it definitely will not let me sell to buy orders that are placed in a remote citadel regardless of range if I am in another citadel.

This man knows about grinding stuctures with expensive ships and putting them in danger, listen to him
