FPS drops to 20 with medium shaders

Hey guys. I’ve encountered a frustrating problem with a 2003 game: with shaders set to medium, it’s only giving me 20 fps. I have a desktop computer, but my laptop has a GTX 1650 and 16 gigs of RAM. When shaders are set to low, it gives me 200 fps, but everything looks really bad. Is the GPU size the issue, or is there a solution?

It is the GPU. This game was first programmed in 2003 but the systems have not remained in this state. They are now requiring contemporary hardware because they use contemporary features.

My system meets the recommended system specifications and the game seems to run fine on medium settings.

What’s your hardware on PC and fps like?

What 2003 game is it you are talking about? And your GPU is at least 7 years old. Should be no problem for a 2003 game.

If you are talking about EVE, then EVE is no 2003 game. You can easily recognize this at least with the DirectX Version used. In 2003 DirectX 9.0 was used for games. This is not supported by EVE since many years since EVE is upgraded with the years. Many parts are rewritten and added and it is technically not the game from 2003, which also was a 32bit game. 32bit support was also abandoned by EVE long ago.

Today EVE uses DirectX 11 and 12 and is a 64bit game. In 2003 EVE was released on 1! CD-ROM with around 750MB, today the size is roughly 50GB.

Meeting the minimum specs means that the game is running, not that it can run well.

I have the recommended ones, not the minimum ones.

I mean, other games with a long history work pretty well on my system.

Intel(R) Core™ i5-10300H gtx 1650 16 ddr4. I have an unstable 60 fps in empty locations

Not sure if the drivers nedd to be updated. Otherwise reset graphics setting to default and check the fps, than choose optimize to performance and check fps again.
