From Extraction To Production: Update

The ability to compress moon goo and gas is 100% new capability.

Yes things change, sometimes for the harder, but the point was compression went from a very simple system to a more nuanced one to reflect its new capabilities.

Did they miss the mark? Unquestionably. However, the theory seems sound in principle.

Mining and this update have crossed into the “variable overload” zone.

You have bonus per skill level, role bonus, tech level bonus, module bonus, crystal bonus, reprocessing bonus, system bonus (e.g. Federal Steller Observatory) and now waste variables and compression variables. That’s nine dimensions.

There are other variables that effect mining: Ore belt size and mineral density come to mind. With eleven variables, the outcome is beyond manageable from a sense of game design and meaningful game-play. There is an upper limit here. Is it 43 variables? Twelve? Personally I think it is less than eleven.

There is some apparent receptiveness and refection going on and that is encouraging.

I agree with you. See my comment around here somewhere. I think it is a variable that arrived too late. There are far too many individual mechanics in mining lending to objectively undesirable outcomes.

The fact CCP flipped the waste chart and delayed compression is indicative of a complexity fully lost on the original release.

They’re not expensive, they’re just scammed. It’s a difference. There aren’t many people selling them, and over this lack of competition, they can inflate the prices.

Look at Golems. Their construction price was never higher then it’s now, which is 1.2B isk per Golem, but half a year ago, when battleship components were introduced, it was around 900M isk to build a Golem, yet Golems quickly spiked to over 2B / hull in Jita. It was such a nobrainer to make isk with one of the least interactive production chains around that more industrialists jumped into the Golems manufacture, and the result is the Golem price decreasing over higher competition on the selling side. Despite the construction price now being higher.

The same will happen with the ORE miners. Once there’s a high volume market for ORE LP store, more opportunists will run ORE missions and thereby generate more LP, and competition on the markets will cause the prices to get down.

Well they have high level goals, and the changes are designed to better achieve those goals.

So if they figure out that the design isn’t achieving those goals, you adjust your plans. The goals stay the same.

No, the theory is bad.

Current setup:

  1. Fleet mate loads ore in Fleet Hangar
  2. Fleet mate compresses ore
  3. Fleet mate removes compressed ore

New Setup:

  1. Fleet mate loads ore in Fleet Hangar
  2. I move to Cargo hold <== adds risk of co-mingling ores and losing track of who owns what
  3. I activate module <== unless this is near instant, this will cause problems, and is where you start asking yourself why you agreed to do the worst job in mining.
  4. I put the ore back in Fleet Hangar
  5. Hopefully fleet mate remembers to get his and only his ore. <== this is where you get corp frustration

We went from 3 simple, hard to f-up steps to 5 time consuming and tedious steps. Mashing buttons does not making mining engaging. Talking to your mates and getting BLOP’d does that. This is just added complexity for no reason. Like I said before, they could keep the current process AND add losses AND require skills AND make us fit a stupid module. But keep it instant and easy.

so atm on sisi its still the base 34% waste with only the T2 modules having the waste factor and crystals having 0% waste. (excluding C types)

(had to look over the changes since I didnt factor in the added wastage as someone pointed out to me)
after the proposed changes theyre adding 10% and 30% to the Type A and Type B crystals respectively thus making it 44% and 64% waste modifiers and saving 22 seconds to the Type B crystals. but that then gives us no reason to use the type B crystals on anything other than common ore and Type A’s on the more valuable ore assuming youd deal with wastage

(cuurent SiSi comparison)

but assuming you you increase the amount mined to compensate for the wastage, this means that T1 crystals wwill be far better to use over T2 crystals simply because your increasing the wastage even further mean while T1 crystals have no to low wastage.

if it was 0% and 10% then 10% and 20% from T1 to T2, Type A to Type B, then id MAYBE see a reason to use T2 Type A’s if that. but theres no reason to use Type B’s with that high a wastage factor with the exception of common null anoms and other basic ores around space which might be the intention considering the time saved. but you gotta give us a reason to use Type A’s at the least.

the way i see it is that id only use Type B’s for the massive Null anoms, Type A’a for moons and high/low sec belts and OFC Type C’s for enemy moons. but the new proposed wastage factors make me question using T2 crystals

Agree but many thousands of faction strip miners are needed now. Golems have reasonable substitutes - other Marauders. There are no reasonable faction strip miner substitutes. I don’t know if the ORE mission running will continuously and adequately develop ORE strip miner units and neither does CCP.

its a matter of not being able to get them in high sec. you can only get them from npc null sec.

what?

As a solo HS miner, I thank you for the changes! I am actually quite happy with this.
Please don’t mess up the mining frigates! Pretty please.

If you care about mining frigates, you’re probably not a miner.

def. not true. mining frigates, especially the expedition frigates have theyre place in mining. especially when it comes to gas and wormhole mining. and i commonly see endurances in ice belts here and there

Why is there going to be a high volume market?

Ya’ll mentals envious of the carebear life keep hanging around here and can’t stay away like Rockstar groupies.

Get on the mentals bus…

If they make them [much] cheaper and if they allow them to use crystals, yes there’ll be high demand for the faction miners. If not, then no. It’ll be something to laugh at on zkill, like when people officer fit barges / mission ships.

The last endurance I clapped had an ORE miner on it

Experience > PLEX. But yeah, I expect to see more ships like this.

What about deployable Mobile Compression Unit. They could recycle mechanics of Compression Array just make it smaller and cheaper. And maybe you need something like Entosis Link for it to function, just change it a little bit that only Orca can use it add some waiting time instead making it instant. And people still can shoot it so there is your risk.
