Yes, I completely agree with you, As I mentioned bumping is used all over the place to control the speed and position of ships, not just in Freighter ganking, they are indeed separate.
The Freighter and indeed any other capital ship are do to their massive inertia more vulnerable to bumping. This is an obvious trade off to their other properties which is huge EHP buffers and in the case of the Freighter a massive cargo hold.
Simpler explanation is they have huge EHP, to compensate for lack of armament.
As to their alignment etc, well those are more simply explained by their size, and mass.
That bumping happens to be effective, is incidental.
Thatโs what I mean by massive inertia. They are extremely huge massive ships. Therefore they have a huge massive hull which can absorb a lot of damage, are slow as hell and hard to manoeuvrer so they are vulnerable to bumps.
So do you agree that this is no issue but just a consequence of their mass and size?
My initial point was to de-couple what I saw as an attempt to connect bumping with ganking as if they are synonymous.
Bump mechanics are imo a bit silly in terms of โrammingโ not having any damage effect on the rammer or the target. But thats beyond the scope of this thread.
I think that is pretty obvious and I donโt see where my initial argument gave the impression I mix that up. But ok, glad we finally agree on something.
Well, you seemed to respond with bumping being justified by the ship stats on freighters (or other vessels), as โcompensationโ.
I wanted to make it clear you agree that bumping is incidental to ship stats.
If you have the mass/inertia to bump a vessel, then you do.
Even a freighter can be used to bump (albeit awkwardly).
Does anyone have the player studies that looked through HS freighter gank rates?
Can anyone confirm it was <3% of HS attrition?
I seem to remember it being so, as I responded there as I did here, that if it was 100% greater (ie:20-30%) it might be cause for concern.
Iirc, the thread was partially related to the issue of the free-flow of cargo between HS markets and NS supply (and the efficacy of the LS barrier between them), relating to JFs overflying LS conflict points.
CCP does need to do something to change the way the game is played. some of this content is so stagnant that it literally blows. Highsec needs to be totally redone. Freighters are completely useless unless they have an escort. PVE needs to be redone. the rant goes on and onโฆ
I ganked several โnewโ players. I write โnewโ because in this game of alts you never know and it is suspicious that 7days old char is flying retriever.
I see a ship I want to gank, I gank it. I do not check the pilotโs bio if he is new player or not. There is no time for that too. I usually find out after I have killmail in hand.
Some of the gank activities such as venture killing and autopilot pod/shuttle+pod killing will obviously have more victรญms out of new players. And killing new players is not disallowed at least outside of the rookie systems and career systems. If CCP wanted they would gave new players X-day immunity to pvp.
Preach it brother! This BS about not shooting noobs is WoW culture, people bring that attitude in from lesser games. This is EVE, we donโt believe in that here.
