Gas scouping drones when?

It is a pity that I have to resort to Gnosis instead of Porpoise/Orca/Rorqual when farming gas.

Edit: a separate ORE Industrial Command Ship aimed at gas stuff would be nice too.

use a covetor with gas strip miners like everybody else.

Sure… But if I want a mining command burst while doing gas stuff Gnosis supersedes Porpoise/Orca/Rorqual with 2-8 ships on the grid

Orca supersedes the Gnosis with 4 others.

Gnosis can gas huff and boost, which in turn cements its role as one of the worst ships ingame because it’s just too versatile.

You forgot to count in amount of gas Gnosis would scoup in

No I did, but the higher boosts of the Orca make up for that.

with what ships and fits?

Venture with 2 gas cloud scoop IIs: 2.67 m3/s
Gnosis with 5 gas cloud scoop IIs: 2.5 m3/s
Orca: 0 m3/s

Venture boosted by mindlinked Gnosis: 4.11 m3/s
Gnosis self-boosted: 3.86 m3/s
Venture boosted by mindlinked Orca: 4.98 m3/s

So the question is, with how many Ventures (N) plus a Gnosis do you huff gas as fast as the same amount of Ventures plus Orca:

N*4.11 + 3.86 = N*4.98 + 0
(4.98-4.11)*N = 3.86
N = 3.86/0.87 = 4.4 Ventures.

Okay, I wrongly recalled it was 4, it’s a little more. You need 5 Ventures for the Orca setup to exceed the Gnosis.

And a lot of mined gas to set up for the ~2B excess cost you have on field :stuck_out_tongue:

Fair enough.

I think gas huffing is a fine activity for solo miners, one that doesn’t need a big fleet of barges and booster, gnosis or otherwise.

It’s also the mass and size of the Orca, you don’t want to close every wormhole you jump whilst huffing with an Orca, and the porp can fit through small holes the same as Prospects. It should be the best wormhole huff booster but the Gnosis outperforms it

Well, I’d say it outperforms it only for smaller Gas sites and smaller Gangs.

For the larger WH sites of gas, the Porpiose is clearly better, just for the option to store Gas in the Fleethangar and MiningBay (55.000m³) and the option to compress on grid. Tbh 5% loss for decompression is more than worth it to save the hassle of doing haulingruns to your home hole. Or, if people don’t want to do reactions and just move it out of the hole, compression is also more than worth it.

it takes 11 prospects for a porp to outperform a gnosis, 10 prospects and a gnosis together have 130km3 of cargo space, an instrumental gas site is 140km3 of gas. a porp for compression is only worth on the vital site as it is double the size. 1 gas site iin the entire game is worth it

Who cares about the storage when u can jump into hauler and get it?

So you’re not only using a Gnosis, but also a hauler?

If only there was a ship that could do the function of the Gnosis, but with a large ore hold, so it can fill both roles at once!

9 Prospects.

They mine 4.56 m3/s with a Porpoise, 4.11 m3/s with Gnosis, that’s a 0.45 m3/s difference.

The gnosis itself mines 3.86 m3/s, divided by 0.45 is 8.6 Ventures or Prospects.

You say this as if there isn’t a possibility of 3+ gas sites existing in the same hole.

no, i often do fleets big enough to use a porpoise but i’d rather have more porpose used in wh space. People want to be efficent and if it could huff they would bring them out for 3 man fleets instead of gnosis.
A cored ship adds more pvp content to the space i live in because it is locked in place people are more likely to escalate a drop

so, wheres the discussion on why drones are needed? only the topic title mentioned it… nothing else, not even the OP mentioned it.
