Hello, the people that created EVE Online decided to give ship names automatically. So when a ship is assembled the name given was
%PlayerName's %Ship
For example “Bakster Kanes Vexor”
But the people that took over decided to change this, so now it says
%Ship - %PlayerName
For example “Vexor - Bakster Kane”
But why change it? And who decided this would be a good change?
It was changed recently when the “name your ship” step became an automatic part of boarding a new ship.
I didn’t use the old name and don’t use the new name because you generally do not want to have your player name in the ship name either way.
But it’s nice there is a default name and I can easily remove the last part to call that Vexor ‘Vexor’.
Is it time for a new poll?
If anyone said no, would that stop you?

Simple and sensible answer…
Ship names are often too long to be fully displayed in the station hanger. If your name is Englebert Humperdinck III, you’ll be lucky to even have part of that name displayed, let alone whatever ship is associated. Thus it makes far more sense to put the ship name first.
I personally don’t give my ships my full name. All ships belonging to Gloria are simply called G*…Shiptype. Ships belonging to my Altara account start with A*. That way I can always know who a ship originally belonged to, if I transfer ships.

If you are using Icons you can tell the ship from from the icon, if you are using list your can tell the ship rom the “ship” column and in most cases when people use the names of the ship to ID it is when they have two of the same kind. For example one might be named “PVE” and the other “PVP” but then they had already changed the name in the first place.
However this brings up another issue: if you have many ships in station there is no folder structure to organize them. have a nice day.
I use a simple coding system…for example ‘N1V8’ means it carries Neutron Blasters plus one other high slot item, and is version 8 of the fitting. I’ve gotten so used to this that I can instantly know which ship is which and what it is fitted with…
Makes it easier for bots to identify your ship type.
But also makes it harder for bots to identify your ship by player name.
